WTB-Eastern Red Cedar logs
« on: November 11, 2013, 09:51:44 AM »
I'm in eastern KY near Morehead. I have a LT-15 manual mill & need to buy, haul home & saw a few cedar logs for a personal project. I'm looking for logs that will saw 1"x6"x8'8" trimmed with best face all heartwood for a porch floor. Cedar mills only get 8' logs so nothing there in logs or lumber!
A cedar cutting logger(that will cut me a few 9' logs) is my only answer!
I Need 10-12 above average logs, measuring 10" minimum @ small end with as little defect as logical.
Call 606-768-3110-thanks!

kantuckid, welcome to the forum. How many you need? Might not be a bad idea to get 1 or 2 more than you need. I have cut a tree,on my land, brought it to the mill to saw and had to go to the woods again. How long have you had your LT15?

Talk to Cedarman. If he doesn't have them, he'll have an idea where to get them. ;D
Manage 80 acre tree farm in central Missouri and Mesquite timber and about a gozillion saguaros in Arizona.

Old thread but I moved on after I found the mother load of cedar an hour away.
Guy bought an old "growed up" place he was grooming for pasture (eastern KY style so it seems silly to this KS boy from big sky state!) and he had lots of cedar. I paid what he got after a load and long haul to a cedar mill. Nice trees, shady grown and bought one log that I cut natural edge that slabs will make a table top!
Most went towards porch floor as 1x6 planed on bad face to 1" then 180 touch sanded and slight bevel to top edges, then placed "red/heartwood side up and screwed down with SS. Oiled with a natural oil, makes a beautiful floor too.
I'll cherrypick the remainder from porches for 5 grandaughters to get a hope chest.
On the upper cedar porch parts I used Cabot's Australian Log Oil in Honey Teak color(same as log house got) and it really is a great product on cedar outdoors, color wise. Highly recommended finish from an experienced user-if your state allows the "good version" not the "EPA ruined it" version.
