Our grits is cornbread from the oven, served with molasses, sometimes maple syrup, but mostly to go with the soldier beans or breakfast and termed 'Johny cake'. Our 'white stuff' is cream of wheat cereal or even better, baked potato out of the oven with butter. ;D

I like my grits with eggs over easy on top.  Very nice looking boards from those ugly logs.  It makes me want to think about hauling home some of the logs that are all over the mountain where I live.

Maple syrup is too expensive.  I just sprinkle maple sawdust on mine.  High fiber.  Copperheads still asleep for the winter, but I expect to see them soon.
