I can a fair amount of venison in mason jars.
I am the canner and Linda is the cleaner.
She has trouble getting the jars clean.
Any tips out there?
BTW we just finished a supper of Stroganoff using the canned meat
Pretty darned good.

Have you tried rinsing in warm ,not hot water and then just putting them in the dishwasher ? I don't can meat ,but thats what I would try . I just throw mine in the dishwasher.
Together we got this !

Maybe try a bottle brush or something similar. We usually run ours through a sanitizer cycle on the dish washer

You could try Vinegar soak to get stains off . Then the dishwasher . If it will clean the holes in a shower head it should clean a jar .

Gearbox do you use the vinegar full strength or do you dilute it down a bit?

We bought a Victorino canning jar brush at Runnings that really works good with a sink full of steaming water and dawn. It is a very stiff foam that leaves nothing behind. I cleaned about 600 jars with it last year and they all came out spotless. :)

You can also use iodophor. It is used to sterilize brewing bottles and is iodine base. Doesn't do well on plastic but for glass and stainless it's awesome and cheap

I'll have to google Runnings to see if there is one near me.
Wife put the last one thru the dishwasher and it came out pretty good.
She hasnt had that kind of luck before.

Iodophor is available from homebrew companies for beer and wine making.

If you know a dairy farmer, he may be able to get you some.

Please note that Iodophor is not a cleaner, it's a sanitizer.

If the jars are bad, maybe ammonia will cut everything loose.

I like the dishwasher to clean jars.

I think I sell Idopher by the gallon at the hardware store I work at. It's by the other stuff for dairy framers too.

Our water is very hard and without a water softener our dishwasher is not good for cleaning jars.  They're clean but not clear  ;) ;D

The closest one to me is in Canadiaga but the brushes are available online for a couple dollars. :)

I use a bar brush mounted to a board that I put in the sink.  The brush stays still and you rotate the jar instead of the brush.

Best breakfast I ever had was canned venison and gravy on pancakes. Way better than it sounds.

I use a toilet brush [new!]with the handle cut off in a cordless drill. I use the same cordless with a paint mixer, again, new to make mashed potatos. Cordless drills are a highly underrated kitchen tool. ;)
