I have a Partner P85 that hasn't run in over 10 years.  Now I need that size saw again and am trying to fix it.  The recoil spring is mangled so I'm getting a replacement, however I'm not exactly sure how it is supposed to fit together.  Never having seen this type of recoil together properly is hindering my ability to figure out how it goes.  There was also a ring that was in the same cavity as the recoil spring and I assume that somehow holds the spring in the center hub, but it is bent (upper right in the picture).  Can anyone give me guidance, or better yet point me to a picture of how it is supposed to be?

The spring is supposed to look like this:

I have a replacement spring on order and it should arrive tomorrow.  However I have only ever seen this in it's broken state, I don't know what it is supposed to look like.  I suspect the small ring somehow holds then end of the spring in the center of the starter pulley assembley.

That is correct, it fits around the inner loop of the spring.
And don't forget the screw and nut, that keeps the spring from rotating.
P85 - have never held one in my hands, but most of it is the same as the P100.
Best of luck with it!
