I have a CatClaw sharpener that I have had since 2017.  I have been using it a lot this past year as I have been sharpening for several customers. Yesterday I was sharpening as usual and after replacing a worn out grind rock and shaping the new one, I noticed that as the sharpening progressed the grind was getting noisier as the rock was grinding deeper. Though your not supposed to, I would crank the depth adjustment up while it was advancing to get the cut depth back to where the sound was similar to where I started only to have it go deeper after a few grinds. Finally concluded the adjustment handle is rotating on its own and lowering the rock into the cut. I ended up putting a locking bolt in the threaded collar that controls the depth of cut. That seemed to control the unwanted turning of the control knob. I am curious as to why this has started doing this all of a sudden. I keep the arbor bearings greased regularly but am wondering if they might be on their way out. Would be interested to hear if others might have experienced this. :huh?

The 1/4" thumb screw will tighten up to stop unwanted rotation. Did 50 bands this week without a problem. Just have to remember to tighten it down once I get the adjustment. I guess the newness has gone away on my machine. Still does a good job of sharpening though. Also noticed that as the rock was wearing, a lot of vibration seemed to go away as well. Maybe I had an unbalanced grind rock causing some of my issues.
