Title: Jeff's and Tammy's Exportation
Post by: Tom on June 22, 2006, 01:17:10 PM
The Great Adventure Begins

Today is the day that the great adventure begins for these two small town aristocrats.

Jeff's first flight was this year to Jacksonville, Florida and Tammy has never been "anywhere".  Now they are headed to the great state of Texas and beyond.  Costa Rica may never be the same again.

Standing bravely by their luggage, Jeff and Tammy prepare to pack the Forestry Forum Steed for the trip to Saginaw and the big bird that will take them to the Great State of Texas.

You will notice how confident Jeff appears as he stands there authoritatively holding his sunglasses, as if to assure Tammy that she is in capable and experienced hands.

The big bag wasn't as large as they thought and they had a hard time getting the chainsaws and canoe in it.

Here is Tammy, this morning, tentatively guarding their plane tickets.  This is the Saginaw Airport and, soon, their plane will be outside of that window and Tammy will be in for the ride of her life.   Jeff already has national flying experience, so, he won't be bothered until he gets to Texas and sees the United States of America receding behind him as he ventures over the Gulf of Mexico.

Yes, Paschale, a happy trip it will be.  Just as long as Tammy doesn't think about the internal pressures to be exerted upon that window; which is the only thing that will be between her and -60° F.

Will we find that she will be a "white knuckle" flier?   I don't think so.  Years of experience flying big yellow school buses with yammering kids disrupting her thoughts has conditioned her to be a fearless traveler.   That void of 35000 feet between the soles of her shoes and the Mississippi River shouldn't bother her a bit.

Update dateline Detroit

The great adventure has hit its first snag.

Their plane from Saginaw to Detroit arrived in Detroit just as their flight to Houston was leaving.  Standing at the ticket counter now with forlorn faces, they are trying to figure out what the next step should be.   It doesn't look like there is another flight today.

Stranded in Detroit

Yes, Stranded.   Lost without a compass or baggage in Detroit.   It's not looking good for our wayfaring strangers.  It's still an adventure whether things go right or wrong, but to be stranded in Detroit is likened to be dropped into the jungles of the Amazon.  What will they do now?  Will Jeff find a way out?   Has Tammy got a change of clothes?   Can Jeff hold Tammy back from sending the Airline Pilots Association to a violent end?

Stay tuned for the next chapter in this serial.

What is it that Tammy is saying now? :D

Here we are, not where we are supposed to be.  We are in the Clarion Hotel in Detroit. STILL IN MICHIGAN!  :-\ Our flight into Detroit was delayed so our flight to houston left without us.  After being sent 3 differnt times to 2 different concourses with Northwest blaming Continental and Continental blaqming Northwest we finally got a Conteninal manager to take care of us so new plan: 4:00 am wake up call, 4:30 shuttle back to airport, Detroit  at 7:09 am then arriving in Atlanta at 9:12 am then departing to Costa Rica at 10:48 arriving in Costa Rica at 12:45 pm.

Northwestern finally gave us a voucher for a hotel and supper.  So, as soon as I post the picture Tammy took of me typing on these itty bity keys we're going to go eat.  No one know where our luggage is yet, we are hoping it will be waiting for us in Costa Rica.  Fred If your out there I am trying to call you.  Spirits are still high even though I had to pull Tammy off of this snooty continental agent.  ;)

The first plane was way cool I liked looking out the window and seeing all the little yellow school bus sitting idle.  Ane the land was way cool also.  Not ready happy about the missed flight but the airline was really nice other then the one attendent at the Continental counter.  But I guess every place has to have at least one.  :D

More to follow......  8)

Jeff,
Ah yes! It's the close of chapter I as Jeff drags Tammy from the Airport by the hair on the back of her head, as she is screaming "let me at'em!  let me at'em!"

There are Marines on the way in case they are needed in the morning.

I am glad to hear you are in a hotel and not having to find comfort overnight on the airport seats or the floor (beenthere, and done that too many times). Once in Cincinatti, we were issued hotel rooms after waiting 4 hours, and it turned out to be a 2 hour bus ride, to a hotel at 11:30 pm that was under major re-construction, and hotel beds not made up with any sheets or pillow cases  :( and no restaurant and had to be up and on the bus at 5 am.  You enjoy that stay and add more tales to this great adventure.  :)

What was the excuse for the missed flight?
Title: Re: Jeff's and Tammy's Exportation
Post by: Jeff on June 22, 2006, 08:46:52 PM
As far as I am concerned it was stupid. Our pilot said that detroit told him to slow up because it was so busy. Then when we get there and taxi up, we are stopped and the pilot says we have to wait until they find a spot for us as the gates were all full. We sat there a while then finally started to move. After they let us get off Tammy and I went straight to where we needed to be using the shuttle. Whe we got there the gate door was closed but an attendant was there. She said the plane was loaded. I told her (out of breath) that we were to be on it. She called out to the plane and they said the doors were shut, they were leaving. This was now continental. From there they started playing pinball with us.

These are the same companies that are complaining of lost revenue and Pilots and crew who are supposed to be, according to their Union, so customer oriented.

The TV has been full of reports that the airlines are taking flights off of the line and there will be a lot of people missing flights.  I heard one fellow say that the suggested 2 hour lead time should be extended to 3 hours.  If they keep that up people will have to get there a day ahead of time with a sleeping bag and camp stove.

Not that it would accomplish anything, but, I think both airlines should receive letters of dissatisfaction.  Perhaps NorthWestern had no choice but somebody should have made sure that the connecting flights connected.

They did that to Gael and me when we went to Pa.  one year.  We spent a day and a night on the floor in Atlanta because the Flight attendants were having a "work slow down".   That's comparable to a strike, accept they were lieing to everybody and saying that the incoming connecting flight was having maintenance problems.   It was a bunch of bull and it ruined Christmas for a hundreds of us.

It has caused me to have no sympathy for commercial pilots and their crew.

What really sucks is that plane left without a whole bunch of people and a bunch of empty seats. Not just us.

So , for what , fifteen minutes   ::) , they have to now put all these people up for the night , get them new connections to where ever they where going , and have all of you miss a day to your destinations . That really sucks ....  >:(

I'm surpriced Tammy needed to sit down before me there. We did a bunch of walking as they shuttled us back and forth before somebody decided to take responsibility.  Go here. Go there. They told you to go where? Nope, go back there. Nope, sorry, you need to go here now and wait in this line with 60 people. Wait. Wait. Nope sorry, you need to be in the continental line with those 50 people now.  You need to wait back there while these people check in until we can help you. wait wait wait

hehe, sounds like fun.

I echo Patty, you two should do what two people who rarely get to be alone in a hotel room do. You know, like andy and I do. Sit around the laptop and catch up on posts on the forum TOGETHER  :P  . Usually you have to read them all alone :(

How much later will you be in CR than you planned? Has it delayed you much???

Have fun!

Hey everyone just got a call from mom and dad and they are patiently waiting at the gate in Atlanta Georgia to head to Costa Rica. I will keep you updated as much as I can.

Dad says they still don't know where there luggage is they say it should be in Costa Rica but they really don't know. They still haven't heard from Fred so they aren't sure what they are going to find when they get to Costa Rica.

Roxie dad says Atlanta has been a piece of cake compared to Detroit.

I will keep you updated as much as I can.

A crying shame they missed Dallas and/or Houston, I mean, it is only in the  upper 90's, humidity and temperature, and it would have gotten them some what acclimated to the sunny central American climate.  Of course, they should be up in the hills aways where the air is cooler, but those hats are gonna come in plenty handy.

And Texans would have had a hoot with those yooper accents!!!!!!!! 8)

2, that's right, 2 Ticos carry them 40' 2 X 8's. Middle of the board drags the ground, so, I showed 'em how to use a board crossways to the pile, so the middle slides right to the pile. They just stood and smiled, then pointed to their heads and then to me.  ;) :D :D :D

I really enjoy working with these people. They try so hard to impress you, and, they kinda understand my mal espanol.  ::) ;D ;D :D

Well, to be honost with you,  our trip ran into some bad problems just like Jeff and Tammy's >:(  We got at the cafe and bait shop about half past 10 and I was powerful hungry due to not having any grub since before the sun came up.  We got to that fine establishment and the sign said breakfast 7:00 till 9:30---------dinner 11:30 till 2:00.  Well I didn't figger I could make it till 11:30 so we went up north to the next county and dined at the Douglas County Livestock auction 8)  They got the best hamburgers and fries and chockolate pie going and there's no tipping takes place there.

NOw a funny thing happened while we were there.  The owners are two brothers that are shirt-tail cousins ( l ittle closer cousins of my daughter-in-law, but that's a different story)  Well one of them spies us sitting in the back of the sale barn diner and her eh comes over to see what I was doing there.  He immediately stuck out his hand and I shook it while worrying that I was getting mustard or ketchup all over his hand.  Kept stewing on that after he left.  Then got to thinking .  He'd spent all morning unloading and moving cattle in preperation for the sale :o :o  He probably wasn't worried about getting a little mustard on his hands ;)

Sound suspicious don't it.

Well, no luck getting the pictures from our lap top to harold's computer. Simply dont have the right connections.  Were doing well and still have all our parts but its a little warmer thenwe are used to and the sun, when it is out, is INTENSE.  We have a good photo of me sipping a blackberry fresco and it looks like I am about to have a melt down. :D  The food is tremendous here. Harolds wife and Fred's housekeeper Anna are both very very VERY good cooks.  I keep questioning Harold on how the heck he can be so thin again after the way we eat, but he's right. I have been eating until I can't eat any more and I got up this morning to put on jeans rather then shorts and they are loser already.

I'M MELTING :o

I can't stop looking at the trees and the vegetation. I recognize many of the plants. They are the ones you see in Home Depot in thier tropical house plant section. Here, some are big as trees!  There are flowering trees and flowers everywhere. Impatients like we grow in the summer flower beds grow wild here everywhere.

Yesterday we toured Freds new finca. Beautiful country with extreme teraine (for us). This morning were hanging out with Harold and Renia and then this afternoon we will go meet up with fred and Tammy and Fred and I will tour the Finca Leola to see the plantation trees. Tammy and Fred will be on Horseback, and I will be on an ATV.  ;D

After the Farm tour we wil be staying the next couple days with the farm manager Martin (pronounced Marteen), his wife and two girls. None of which speak english and our spanis is pretty much limited to yse please thankyou and where is the bathroom!

Yesterday evening Tammy was ill for a few hours, but feels fine now.  I wish I could share more photos right now. Sorry guys!  I will get some on as soon as I can.

OH!  I met Hector, Fred's partner and Harold's neighbor. We toured his home he is building there. I really enjoyed my visit with Hector. Just wit until you see the photos of the woodwork going into his new house.

Gotta go for now!

Sounds fantastic!!!

Does the camera issue mean you can't download photos so you now have a limited amount of chip space? Or can you download to your laptop, but not post (due to internet or such)???

Inquiring minds want to know (and are panicking that photos will be limited).

This armchair travelling is stressful...  :-\

We have plenty of disc space. We can download all our photos onto the lap top when we get low on space. We just could not get photos to harolds computer.  We have no phone modem in the laptop, ony the wireless card. When fred moved this last week the wireless went down.  If we get to fred's office again, we may have a way to get a few photos up.

EXCITMENT LAST NIGHT!!!

We got up this morning and we all must have been very tired. Someones cow got on harolds back porch and came into the back part of the house and none of us heard it! It however left a calling card. :- We may be going on a lopped ear cow hunt today!

Hi all,

I can see that Jeff is being introduce to patty de vaca... We are having a great time with Jeff and Tammy, trying not to kill them off with our terrain around finca #2.

Jeff has figured out he likes the food here - The first night he and tammy had river prawns - special of the house at the restaurant in Cabanga. Huge things - Tammy could only eat 2 - but Jeff managed to clean his plate..  ;D

They got to see our new home site - and the little place we are coverting into temporary housing for the next year while the new home is being built.

Total is chaos right now since we moved office, home and Ana all about a week ago yesterday.

Yes Maam, I puckered up and then smacked him in the arm. :D

Its hot here.

Still no luck on da photos, even tried to add a dial up to my computer and Harolds modem but no luck.

We went and saw Harolds saw site today and took some photos. Tammy made me promise her to never ever consider sawing 40 footers!  I said  No PROBLEMO!   Got some more good shots of a feed bag with a live chicken head stuck to it and some mammoth trees and another small waterfall. Back out of the heat now for awhile until Fred comes and Picks us up.

Harold stopped at a small pulperia (store) and Tammy and I went in and bought a coke on our own. We gave them 5000 colones and they gave us back 4550 in change.  Coke is good here. Must be the cane syrup we were told about.  Did I mention its hot here?

We saw a nekid indian!  A Big one.  Standing down over a hill.  (Thats a type of tree) ;D

Harolds house, as most others here are very interesting. They are mostly open to the outdoors. Bugs are really almost non existant compared to home.  There are three lizards that live in the house, small, gecko types that eat insects. They are really cool and part of the household.  A green tree frog lives in the shower and we had a bird come in and visit for a moment at breakfast.  freheoles y arroz was breakfast.  Black beans and rice with egg and bread.  Very good once again. I love the black beans and rice.  The only thing I didnt really care for is the fried plantain.  Maybe its not so hot but it sure is DanGo Humido  :)

Sounds like da Boss and Tammy are having a great time - gettin to sleep comlements of the airlines and all.

CR will never be the same once Jeff buys that 75 acre farm - heard he could pay cash with the proceeds of just one strong kidney. ' course J & T may never may be the same - spending the night with a cow . . .

Hope the rest of the trip goes well - but - the pic's will tell the tale.

We first need proof that he is even IN Costa Rico!  Hmmmmm.  That would take a picture of Jeff and the Deadheader and a 40 ft. board.  (You see, there are those clever folks that can play with images and make it appear that Jeff and Harold are together, or that Arkansawyer is holding a possum, but I don't think they can fake Jeff and Deadheader AND a 40 ft. board!)

This gets more suspicious every day.  Should we be getting concerned?  Has anyone in the States heard from them since they landed?  Seems strange for TWO computer experts to be together and no camera is working.  Wasn't Jeff sending pictures to Tom from the PLANE?  I thought that Costa Rico was "way ahead" of the states in computer connections?!

I think it's time we implemented the FBI (Find Brokaws Immediately)!  I'm taking off for Central America on the mule....Murf....can ya fly that plane down there?  DanG fire up the Hootie Mobil and I'll meet ya on the border!

Jeff, if you can get the pix to your laptop, why don't you just stick them on a floppy disk and transfer them to Harold's (or do an IR transfer - most laptops have an IR port)?

Alternatively, if Harold has wireless (and you mentioned that you have it) simply set up a network connection between your laptop and Harold's computer and transfer the pix thataways.

Another option (if one is available) is one of those little flash readers that plug into the side of the laptop (kinda like a mini hard-disk).

Even though there are doubters on this string, there are those of us who believe in you!  You can get these pix posted, we just know it!

OK, here's an update. First, I'm ill with a fever, so, no sawing today.

Took the visitors out to see the saw site with the 40'ers. Tammy asked Jeff to PROMISE to not saw any of those. He said, "No problem".  :D :D :D

Got several photos on 3 cameras. Problems with posting, my computer has had problems. Jeff thinks the guy that "fixed it"  ::) ::) did an install of Windows 2000 right over the XP OS.  >:( >:(  Many files are not accessible  >:( >:(

I havebeen fighting viruses and Trojans for 2 days. Today, I got real serious and tried to clean the os. Seems to have worked, but, I downloaded Mozilla and it won't install. Get some stoopid error messages.

FRED is going to have his top man do a router in Linix and then connect to my computer, so every firewall and anti-virus program should keep this thing working.

My computer would not open ANY Floppys. Jeff's computer would not make a disc copy. I had DVD's and he needed CD's.  ??? ???

Installed the connection info for directly plugging into our RDSI. I told him the wrong phone number  ::) ::)  Would't connect.

Then, Fred showed up, and took them to the Finca to spend 3 days. There is NO phone there, except the Cellphone, and Jeff would NEVER have the agility for the fancy poses that Marteen uses to hang from the rafters to use that cellphone.  ::) ::) :D :D

We ARE having a good time, though. Sometime Wednesday, I go get them and they will stay here for 2 days, before going toward the airport direction.  I have the CORRECT phone number now, so, I'm sure Jeff will be posting plenty of photos.  :) :) :)

I called Becky and told her we needed to get ready for a rescue mission in CR.  She was not exactly thrilled about leaving Cool Nick the stud's house, ::)  but she is packed and ready. We will be heading south today, and will probably hit the Missouri border by dark.  smiley_horserider  I showed her a picture of Roxie's mule, she thinks he is kinda cute. OK Patty, You bring Becky, I'll bring the chicken and a fishing rod, in case she loses momentum, we can tie the chicken to the fishing rod and dangle it in front of her, carrot on a stick style, and see if she goes for it.

Ian, I don't see why we can't do both.  We can tie Kevin to the Mule and have him entertain us in the evenings. Rox, Patty and I will rest from our journeying, and Kevin can dance for us. We can buy a Mexican hat in Mexico (on the way to CR) and he can do the Mexican Hat Dance. That'd be fun.

Rox, Don't fret, we're on our way!

Get the Tequila out. Patty bring a lemon or a lime. I have salt.

Ok, I have started a list:

tequila, limes, and lemons
sunscreen for Roxie
chicken & fishing pole
muleman's donkey for Roxie   Muleman you'll see us coming, just look for the horse with the chicken dangling out front.
Bro Noble (he can ride on the mule until we reach Roxie)
tequila, limes, and lemons
camera (may as well have one camera that works in Paradise)
food for Becky (she is insisting that a fine horse like her can'tlive on chicken alone)
tequila, limes, and lemons

I am thinking Joan needs to help us keep Bro Noble in line. He can be an ornery old cuss.  ;D

Help is on the way, Tammy!

Gary C, the last we heard from Paschale and Furby....they were headed to the Detroit Airport to check!  You don't suppose???????????  :o

Now, Bro. Noble you stop whining and get packing.  This days layover in San Jose has already cost the F.B.I. (Find Brokaws Immediately) valuable time.  And you don't have to worry about Virginians hanging around once the Tequila comes out.

Patty....add one more mule for Joan!  She's from the cold northern area and it would fair kill her to walk down here.  It's hotter than heck!

Perhaps we should notify the border...

Jeff and Tammy are "safely" ensconced in the first fince - where they are hoping to see Howler monkeys (almost certainly). Martin has volunteered to take Jeff snorkeling for fish in the river - we will see if Jeff survives.

We did a drive around the finca so that Jeff and Tammy could see the trees - without chainsaws. Then we hung out for a while on the porch. While there, a huge storm came up - I don't know if it hit them (haven't heard yet)

They are in the midst of Spanish immersion - I don't think they are drowning since we haven't got a call for help yet.

Who is "we" in "we hung out on the porch" and who is "them" in "don't know if it hit them".   ??? ??? ;)

If Jeff and Tammy were on the porch with you, while the storm came up, then why wouldn't you know  ??? ??? ::) ::) :) :)  Or are "them" the Howler Monkey's ???

I can see that more help will be needed , I know for a fact that the road system there is at best iffy . I left here this morning at five , got into this :

Went down and bought this and loaded it on the low bed

This is whats on the lowbed

Its the Polar Doser ( I'll start another thread for the explanation to this one )  ;)
I need to run it a bit before the shipping , so its on its way to clear a path for them mules  Sorry Becky horses too, and seeing as I will need experience in making an air strip , well we can make one for Murf to be able to land the rescue arowplane  ;D .

Well,  If you thik about it a little,  there's snakes and all kinds of repulsive critters,  heat and storms,  illinesses and volcanos and earthquakes.  As you pointed out there are those three girls and all that tequila,  I'm not sure that's a good combination.  Then you have to remember that Jeff did turn me into a punkin on more than one occasion.  Then there's the kidney issue-----I use mine awhole lot.  And last ,  but not least,  some of my ancestors came from Virginia.  Them folks down there misht consider me a Virginian :o

However, my 6 year old grandaughter is spending this week with me so I could not leave till next week. SCSmith, there's a good chance Bro Noble is scairt of being corrupted by us three gals, don't know why, I hear tell they're all out of bath tubs, so even IF we ran out of tequila we couldn't rightly sell Noble's kidneys without we found a tub.

According to my calculations, we should be reaching the border of Costa Rica by mid-day now that we have Marcel's truck.  We'll unload the critters from that point and travel southeast into the Dairy Area.  We look like the Beverly Hillbilly's all piled on Marcels trailer with Patty riding machine gun on top.

WOOHOO!

Sounds like fun.

We're all moving along now.

We've got a horse, with a chicken tied to it's head, carried on a low-loader, along with a tractor and a mule (with no saddle)

Three gals, who wouldn't ever be mistaken for Virginians, thank goodness, drinking Tequila, holding a machine gun.

The entourage is protected by a plane flying low to keep mozzies off us.

Our chauffer is a happy Canadian, and we've got a few bathtubs strapped to the back of the truck, just in case we run out of money.

Did I sum it up?

DID WE BRING SPARE TEQUILA???

Murf, it's probably a really good idea to leave the very cute Deputy Dawg at home, coz he's small and tastes like chicken.

And between Salsa wielding locals and a horse that could run out of food at any time, it could be dangerous.

Landing on the side of the river sounds very Dirk Pitt to me, sounds wonderful.

We still need more helpers in the entourage, just in case Patty, Roxie and I get mistaken for Virginians.

It's a RESCUE PARTY.

we're all taking seriously the claims that Boss and Bossette are either In a bathtub full of ice with Post-it note instructions stuck to their forheads, OR, being fed to a volcanoe, having been mistaken for Virginians.

There have been NO PHOTOS to ALLEVIATE our FEARS.

To that end, we put you on notice that we are ON OUR WAY.

Unless some photos turn up soon, you'll have a posse of Three Wild Women, Two Canadians, a Low Rider, A Grader, A plane (with tundra tyres), two mules (one on strike) and a Horse with a chicken tied to it's head DESCENDING UPON YOU momentarilly.

BE READY.

Of course I did!

If you all recall - Jeff and Tammy were heading to the first finca - where this is no phone and no internet for Spanish Immersion. This means of course no chatting on Internet in English. You all will just need to hold your horses until this evening...

I would have pictures - but, I am riding my bike to work everyday - and havent got the sequences just right - and our vehicle is being repaired today as well.

Tomorrow Jeff and I go fishing for Guapote! (Peacock bass)

The Boss man has said that he will start a thread when he gets back with LOTS AND LOTS of pictures - but it is sort of fun to see you all suffer till then...  :D

Guys, I tried... yup, I really did.

I was prepared to join in this rescue trip to save Jeff and Tammy from unspeakable horrors...

However, when I approached my wife, the Vet (who's speciality is castration - 20,000 animals and counting...), somehow she seemed a bit, uh, shall we say "underwhelmed" by my request to scamper off to places south.

After I explained the situation, her response went something like this...

"Hmm, let me see if I have this straight... you want to head off to South America, in the accompaniment of a woman named "Roxie" (my wife pronounced Roxie's name in a rather husky tone", a Sheila named "Asy" (she also pronounced this with certain anatomical overtones), and a woman named Patty that admitedly likes "a man that has a big gun"???

And this trip will involved tequila and some type of tubs???

And you're going to a place where you may be out of communication for DAYS, with these three women, and their tequila and tubs????"

(Somehow she wasn't impressed that there were mules, dozers, tractor-trailers, airplanes, and other men involved).

Her acquiensence sent shivers down my spine...

"Why sure honey" she sweetly responded, "you can go... why don't you step into my surgery for a few minutes so that I can "prepare you" for the trip?

And I sensed it wasn't my "kidneys" that were in danger of abscombing under her surgical knife...

Sorry guys, the price is more than I'm willing to pay.  I'll be glad to donate to the hay and tequila fund though...

Good news everyone! Paschale just stopped in and was heading west as we speak. Now he was going to do a music festival in Colorado but after updating him on the problems down south I'm sure he'll hang a left and meet the group down on the border. We can't be having this group not have some kind of entertainment so I'm sure it will be a welcome addition.

Well that explains to me just why we have to bring our own tequila.   ::)

Ok we have Mule Man's 4 little mules (Becky thinks they are little play things), with Bro Noble tied down into one of the bathtubs so we didn't have to listen to his whining.  smiley_furious3 I left the saddles on the little fellas since they didn't have much of their own padding....unlike Becky who has oooodles of padding. She is like riding a lazy boy she is so broad across the back.

Roxie got a little pink waiting for the sunscreen, but I think she'll be fine. However we are running low on the drinks. We may have to stop at one of the local pubs and pick up some refills. Joan I sure wish you could swing down here to help with Bro Noble, he is a bit negative about this whole rescue thing. Short story to relate:  my parents, brother and his ex-fiance went to Hawaii in April.  Brother has a laptop and a brand new Fuji high-end digital camera with him.  They spent ten days taking literally hundreds of photos and uploading them onto the computer.  Last day there, he goes into a convenience store (locking the rental car), comes back out, the car is busted open and his laptop, camera and all his luggage is gone, stolen.

So he comes back all bummed out because he didn't have pictures to show everybody.   So keep close watch on the camera and backup everything frequently.   He shoulda burned a disk and mailed it home.  I say, pictures are good to remind YOU of where you've been, but they don't do much for me unless I was there too.

One good thing about the trip - he lost the fiance shortly after they got back.   Lucky guy, in my opinion.   :D

It's obvious to me that they're in a bathtub full of ice, and they're only being allowed to type with one hand. That's why he can't turn the caps lock off...  bath_smiley

It's a sad and sorry state of affairs.

Don't fret about the tequila, Rox, while we drive, we can pick some agave leaves and make up a home brew, I know where we can find some ice to cool the copper tubing down...  smiley_beertoast smiley_alcoholic_01

I'm really suspicious about the one and only photo of Jeff that keeps showing up, post after post. Do you see the feint glow around his person? It's an obvous cut and paste. And the one of Bossette is distant and fuzzy, an obvious forgery, could be ANYONE there. The one of the Boss with the Fig Leaf, well, PHOTOSHOP I say! Whoever saw a leaf THAT big!!!  It was originally a photo of him pointing to something, but it's been ADULTERATED!

Roxie, it's a good thing that you're keeping a 'Mission Diary' for us, just in case too much fuel is imbibed and we lose someone, I see I get to monitor the Grader. Thanks :D I wonder if Marcel would let me drive it for real, or only on the back of the trucky.  move_it
I'm real pleased we're picking DanG up on the way, and the 4 extra mules will come in handy.

The stories aren't checking out. Yesterday Fred said they're going in search of Peacock Bass today, but then Harold posts that they're at his house. Does he have PEacock Bass at home, or are we being duped.

STEP UP THE FBI MISSION!!!
[/color]

I wonder if the GPA Coke Can is still around, or if it was found while their luggage was obviously being searched while it was 'mysteriously lost' by the undoubtedly corrupt luggage people...

Joan, there's PLENTY of time for you to join us, we can get Murf to hang a left on his way here, do you have somewhere he can pull up? He has Tundra Tyres on. There's a spare mule. Bring yer ChainSaw in case we have to break the Boss out of somewhere...

By the way, How come Mule-Man's sent his mules, but not himself?

Also, we need a band
. smiley_trap_drummer There's some talk of Puhskolly coming to help out horn_smiley, but I heard tell that UncleBuck plays a Geetar smiley_guitarist, and there are others here who play instruments  . I sing, I'll be happy to regale you all with songs of joy. Well, more Jazz etc. But I CAN sing "Girl from Ipanema" in Spanish, AND i have a Spanish Dancer outfit (packed in my saddle bag, cushioning the spare vodka) so, if'n the authorities get suspicious we can break out in spanish song and convince them we're a travelling band. UB, we'll get you a Sombrero as we go through Mehico.  fred_head

Scott, your excuse wasn't a bad one. I'm sure, if your wife met Rox and I, she'd like us. (or we'd corrupt her, one way or the other). Bring her with you, we may need a medico to do some kidney replacement surgery.    splitwood_smiley

(No-one read this except member of the 'inner FBI circle', please: Guys, here's someone who can help us on our Kidney Harvesting sub-theme, help me convince her she has to come along, but SHHHH in case anyone else cottons on.)

Iain, we have an exit strategy, but we won't need it. Once we complete our rescue mission there'll be enuf of us there to TAKE OVER COSTA RICA ENTIRELY. But SHHH. That's the ulterior motive of the FBI Rescue mission. Don't anyone tell the authorities!

Well I tried to ride the bike down there but every time I opened the front door to leave the flood waters tried to get in - DanG rain. I'm just gonna put them swimming trunks on and head out anyhow.

Boy did I get bummed out last night after packing the tequila, lemons and extra lemons ( Fred says he's got plently of limes ). Seems the new Readers Digest goes into how the bad guys are harvesting body parts from corpses - each corpse being worth $ 250,000  !

Bill, good to have you onboard. Even If you're only wearing Speedo's...  :o

I watched NCIS last night, and it was about harvesting body parts, and they said even an ARM would fetch around $200k for medical research.

Maybe THAT'S why da Boss has to only type with one arm.

THEY'VE SOLD THE OTHER ONE!!!

I wonder what a good healthy Michigan sized person will get, in pieces? Gosh Bill, thanks for scaring us all. We thought it was only the Kidney they were after, seems MUCH WORSE.

Whie I SEEM to have a stable internet connection for the moment, I just wanted to thank everyone for the gathering rescue party, although it seems is just more of a gathering Party.  :) No fear, I still have all my limbs and they only put me in the post for a few minutes everyday as I think I caught them talking about in spanish that I was big enough to boil broth off from for years.

Since we have been here I have found 2 coke colas. I drained both of them and stuck them in my hat but so far the only rescuers thay have called was a troop of sugar ants and a la kookaracha. To add to the intrigue, once again, I am on Harolds computer and cant put any photos on other then this one I got uploaded yesterday. Its the rainy season here and guess what? It Rains! Yesterday we spent all afternoon and evening trying to post, but the heavy rain and moisture in the air had all connections in a mess.

Well now, since Jeff did give the offishal "I'm okie dokie" code to Bro. Noble, we've decided to move the party posse to a nearby fall back position.  Our location is on the Potrero Bay in the Bahia Potrero where we've set up headquarters.  Bill, Joan, SC....if you're headed down that's our 20 (secret word for location).

HOWEVER, be warned that we are within minutes of initiating a strike on the Dairy Area at a moments notice!!  So, you just watch your peas and cues!  We've also decided that we came prepared to fire our weapons, and fire them we shall!!!!!!  We found the perfect target just outside the Potrero Bay area and we're taking her down folks!

Today we toured the volcano area. You would think if we came this far that volcano would have the courtesy to show up. Nope, she would only show us a hint, but that was it. Were still hoping it clears up before Saturday morning so we can see the thing. We were at the base today to no avail.

Tammy did however get herself a souvenir. I wanted what was behind her but she settled for the carved Spanish cedar sun.

Roxie sent me a plea to join the rescue mission. Sounds like ya'll are okay. I learned a long time ago not to rescue people from either their partner or their vacation. Even when things appear to be an absolute failure or disaster on the outside, there's a lot goin' on. Usually the most memorable vacations are the ones which either were not planned or didn't go as planned!!

Plus, I'm with Engineer on this one (thanks for the work yesterday, Jon). I'm too busy to be impatient about getting their pictures.

BUT, just in case, I did pack up Moto and I'm ready to lend a hand to rescue the rescue crew with spare tequilla, vodka, a shaker, and ice.

Oh, she shakes alright. But certainly not like an HD. Solid lifters, 60 degree jugs, but two differnt connecting rods. Somewhere I have pictures of the connecting rods...

I'll still need the shaker - and the ice.

Don't know what kinda 2 wheeler Spaniards and South Americans make. At least mine's European.

Than again, if I'm gonna go cross country, I might need to go buy myself an iPod. Need to stay connected and amused - ifn I don't, I'll be the cause of another rescue.

Wow - someone is actually reading the schedule?? Yep, we drove over and brought them to the hotel yesterday - and then we all went to the Greece for lunch, showed them how to get on the bus to return and then left them to their own devices...

I think they are supposed to leave early tomorrow morning - they have to be to the airport by 5:00 AM if I recall correctly - which the hotel will do.

We had a wonderful time with them here - too much fun to tell you all about it each day.  ::) But, I think the plan is that once Jeff and Tammy get back home, they have a million pictures to do show and tell with - and have a much better Internet connection than Harold's.

This last two days we are feeling like we should be on lifestyles of the rich and famous. We are the only current guests at the resort, as this is the off season. Its like the whole place is ours and we have maids and servants and even guard dogs. The place is unreal. Vistas and beauty in every way you look.  The public transportation here is great, but since we are currently pretending to be affluent, we take the taxies.  To come to town for dinner is only 5 bucks. Today is our last day so we came to town to wander around and EAT EVERYTHING THAT LOOKS GOOD! ;D  So here we are in the internet cafe again, contemplating broasted chicken next door then perhaps icecream.  We are across from a wonderful park and Cathedral made of metal. The church bells are ringing as I type.  We will go get some photos of that today as well.

Its really unbelievable the cost for the resort. You can find the price on the website, but I think it less then 70 dollars a night, and that is all year long. Well, gotta go. Next time you here from us will probably be from within the states!

Since we haven't heard to the contrary - Jeff and Tammy are currently winging their way back north like migratory birds... Ah, these Jet Setters!

It will be interesting to have their impressions of Costa Rica, and the people of Finca Leola...

I figure they will feel safe saying anything they wish as soon as they arrive back home...  :D

SOme rough rides today. Costa rica to houston was not bad but they rerouted us out 45 minutes around storms, of couse by the time we got through customs got our bags, went through security, caught the train, got to out gate, the plane was gone.  We got a lator flight to detroit and that one was fun.  Felt like a small speed boat on a big rough lake. he pilot ordered the attendants to park thier carts and sit down, one row befor I got MY snack of course. :-\ ;) He also ordered everyone to thier seate early and said we were going to have a rough road on the landing.  We had the wings wagging back anf forth and you could see from our view the winf surface controls b eing worked continuosly on both sides.  I thought we were going to bounce a few times, but captain bob set he down square and solid. He really had to fly that thing and we were told on touch down that it was the last flight of his career as he was retiring.  He got a loud applause. I think not just for retiring. :)

Well, I connected to a wireless network here belonging to northwest. Our last flight is now leaving at 10:29. I'll consider myself home when we get on the ground the last time and I am in the Forestry forum truck.  Just another adventure today. We didnt let it bother us a bit.  Were so relaxed from the last todays nothing is going to bother us.

oh! I forgot, today is also photo transfer day. I will upack the laptop and get it started up to start transfering the over 800 photos we took over to this machine so I can see them on the pig monitor and start my rotating and cataloging.  Many photos are probably only of interest to us, such as the whole series of phtos where I gave Martin's 5 year old daughter celeene the camera for a few moments and she proceeded to take photos directly through one finger of things around Finca Leola.  :D

I do want to make one brief preliminary statement though before I put all my thoughts together on the trip.

Fred and amy and Hector can flat out grow trees. The work so far is nothing short of impressive and from the time you first come upon either of the first two farms, the management is clearly apparent.

In truth, Costa Rica is a second world - not a third.

Definitions:

First World: Also called 'developed countries', these are ones with such things as factories and no life-threatening diseases. Examples: USA, England, France, and Japan.

Second World: These are countries that have moderate development, maybe one or two major businesses. Although diseases still persist, some of them have been eliminated. Examples: Mexico, Nigeria, Thailand

Third World: These are countries where there is no urbanization or development, and fatal diseases such as AIDS and measles are part of everday life. Examples: Most African countries, southeast Asia, the majority of Latin America

In my opinion, Costa Rica is better off than Mexico.
