I've been watching #8's on ebay lately. They have been going for $120 - 180. This seems high to me. Any thoughts on this price?

What type (age range) are they? I know where there is an earlier one for $125, it is an 1890. Going to do a little planing the old fashioned way, eh? 8) 8)

It doesn't seem to matter what type. They all are selling at high prices. There is one on there closing in a couple of hours that has a repaired tote and a cracked bed that was at $71 last I looked.
I enjoy using my hand planes. Kind of theraputic. When I'm mad at the world I can take a jarly old piece of wood and set to scrubbing and shaping with the hand tools and pretty quick I'm just tired and not mad any more. :D
Is the one you have a line on smooth or corregated? I have a #7 but wood like to fill in my collection a little more.

I don't have a #8 myself. I did a "past sales" search on eBay and that seems to be the going rate $150 give or take. One did go for $81...another pristine one for $250  :o.

LeeB. Do you know how to do that search on eBay ? Up at the top where you can search there is "advanced search". Type in what you are looking at and right below that click the box that says "completed listings only". That will show what stuff has sold for recently. (with pictures too so you can kinda see condition)

Well  now, after doing a little more researching and just searching around, I found out that the prices I been seeing are the going rate and some out there a lot higher. I guess prices have really gone up since I bought my #7  :o
Thanks Daren. I had already figured out how to do the searches but never noticed the completed listings box.

LeeB, I am pretty sure the one I know of is not corrugated. I have a Sargeant that is basically a copy of the Baily #8.

This one has corrugated sole , as far as I know it is in good condition , with no cracks .

$$$  never gave it a thought , till you posted you where looking. I have never used it and I am sure to the fact that I will not use it in the near too far futur . I have gone 'lectric a few decades ago .  ;)

You could always mount it on a drop down arm on the Wood Mizer, like a board drag back. Then you could plane some beams before they even come off the mill. :D
