Someone say turkey? The Toms have been shagging the hens something wicked the past few days. Spring can't far off.

We saw another sign of Spring here today!

We saw 2 turkey vultures circling over the back field this afternoon!

They don't usually arrive while the ground is still covered with snow!

coltsfoot,Now I know what I dug up for the wife. I've never seen them push up through the snow, but where she has her wild garden is on the dry side too. We drive around and find flowers for her garden. Even has Shunk Cabage in there too. But as I said, the soil is on the dry side.

Ray, is it the real skunk cabbage or it the Indian helibore that everyone up here calls skunk cabbage? Skunk cabbage has a big yellow pistol with cabbage like leaves around it, bowl shaped. Here in NB we don't have real skunk cabbage, but they do in NS.

Colts foot is usually up quick after the snow goes, within a couple days. I've seen daffodils push up , but with tree leaves between it and the snow.

That will be it,Indian hellebore. I knew it as skunk cabbage because that is what my Father always called it. My Grandmother got some goats,My Father was not a goat lover. The goat got into some of that Indian hellebore. First thing that really comes up green and as my Father said, must of never been around it,because the goat ate it.My Father said the goat was leaning up against a post and had the pukes something awful.

Yes it's poisonous. However, real skunk cabbage the black bears eat in the spring. I used to live in Prince Rupert, BC and this time of year it was up and flowering with that big yellow pistol. They ate that part.

My uncle used to call hellebore that like your father. Couldn't tell'm nothing.  :D  ;)

I get a,You can't tell them nothing story. My Father had cancer. I went to pick him up at the hospital. Doctor said he was all set and the nurse said, I'll get a wheelchair. My Father got off the bed and said,I don't need no DanG wheelchair, nice and loud and headed for the door. The nurse looked at me said,He can't do that!!!. I looked at her and said,You tell him that,I have to catch up to him.  ;D  Out the door we went. He was still sputtering when I caught up to him.  ;D

On the subject of spring, we don't have none. It will probably turn in the 60's when it does warm up and never cool down again until September. Winter to Summer, no other seasons up here. ;D

I am so excited that spring is here! 8)  Since everyone is showing pictures of their flower gardens I thought I should show mine.  So I just stepped out on the back steps to take a picture of the flower garden by the old barn.  I should break out the rototiller.  But first I have to find the fly dope.  Darn black flies!  They are sure thick today!

Yes, Spring will happen, and with it new life.  I watched the Beech tree outside of my window go from tiny little twists, to full pale green leaves this past week.  The (decorative) Red Maples now have inch long leaves which has happened in just a couple of days.  Maybe I need to take another picture.   ;D
