We are building a wall. A new fence really to replace our award winning fence built in 2005. This time encompassing the old side yard.
So what's your guess on this picture? Shortly after we got started, or later in the day? I made in stop so I could take a picture before he took it apart. I just sent the picture to him and he said lol still can't beleive I did that. The next pictures are of our work today you can see the neighbors little toy fence and our manly Forestry Forum rated fence. I now have 100ft by 8ft of cedar to saw.

But carefully leveled :D
:)
A friends father and his buddies had to splice a big rope for a rope tow. It being winter, and some alcohol being involved, the splicing was done in the back seat of the car. The rope went in one window, and out the other. :D
I'm guessing once you're in you're in and if you're out you're not getting in :D :D :D Only because I see no gate...the devils always in the details
Just can't hire good help anymore, can you? :D
That will make it easy to climb over the wall. :D

I've got ideas for a gate, but its not really necessary as the old fence is coming down, and the area is all open then to the back.
Here I just thought it was a built in fire escape, never be to care to careful ya know.
Had a good friend who is a hvac, plumbing guy by trade helping me put in sewer plumbing in our new house. He did one of the vent pipes while I was working in another part of the house. About three days later I was admiring our work when I realized he had left the temporary lighting wires between the vent pipe and floor joists. Had to cut the wires and splice them back together.

Ready for fence boards that are still cedar logs in the u.p.
Some design work yet for the front gate.

Somehow I think Disney is involved in this and I have an idea that when this place is finished
tickets may be sold to get through that gate.....its gonna be that spectacular! 8)
Really goat? Calling Jeff a mickey mouse operation? :o
I don't mind as it's coming from Goofy. :)
Dat's a dog gone big fence. :)
I gotta dog gone big dog. ITS A WALL! ;D
Da neighbors pooch is gonna hafta use a megaphone ta git Harley's attention now. :D
Dat fence/wall is gonna keep someone and something on their side. 8)
"Good fences make good neighbors."
Robert Frost "Mending Wall"
Something there is that doesn't love a wall,
That sends the frozen-ground-swell under it,
And spills the upper boulders in the sun;
And makes gaps even two can pass abreast.
The work of hunters is another thing:
I have come after them and made repair
Where they have left not one stone on a stone,
But they would have the rabbit out of hiding,
To please the yelping dogs. The gaps I mean,
No one has seen them made or heard them made,
But at spring mending-time we find them there.
I let my neighbour know beyond the hill;
And on a day we meet to walk the line
And set the wall between us once again.
We keep the wall between us as we go.
To each the boulders that have fallen to each.
And some are loaves and some so nearly balls
We have to use a spell to make them balance:
"Stay where you are until our backs are turned!"
We wear our fingers rough with handling them.
Oh, just another kind of out-door game,
One on a side. It comes to little more:
There where it is we do not need the wall:
He is all pine and I am apple orchard.
My apple trees will never get across
And eat the cones under his pines, I tell him.
He only says, "Good fences make good neighbours."
Spring is the mischief in me, and I wonder
If I could put a notion in his head:
"Why do they make good neighbours? Isn't it
Where there are cows? But here there are no cows.
Before I built a wall I'd ask to know
What I was walling in or walling out,
And to whom I was like to give offence.
Something there is that doesn't love a wall,
That wants it down." I could say "Elves" to him,
But it's not elves exactly, and I'd rather
He said it for himself. I see him there
Bringing a stone grasped firmly by the top
In each hand, like an old-stone savage armed.
He moves in darkness as it seems to me,
Not of woods only and the shade of trees.
He will not go behind his father's saying,
And he likes having thought of it so well
He says again, "Good fences make good neighbours."
Well, it's a start. I had 3 cedar logs here. Jeremy and I are making a day trip to our property in the U.P. Saturday to haul home what logs we can on my trailer.

It has begun......hurry up. ;D
I sawed those 3 logs without hitting a backstop or knocking a blade off. So proud!

Left at 6 from home, at our property by 9, chores and trailer loaded by 11, back home by 2.30, sawed enough to do another section of fence, in my chair sore as heck by 8.

Good idea about putting the ramps on the trailer. That's using your noggin for something besides a hat rack.
Jeff,
Fence looks great. I wish we had tyhat type of cedar in mo.

A little construction and destruction today. Hope to haul another load of cedar home later in the week.

How's the feedback from the neighbors? Do they like it ??? ;) ;D
Actually, the neighbor that is getting walled out commented the other day as I was working. He said, that is a very very nice looking fence. I said it looks good from your side? He says yes, very nice.
Thats a whack of logs there Boss! :)
Okay, enough log hauling and sawmilling for today. :)

A man need privacy.
Well, the fence was up only part way and only for a couple days and the neighbor and I had the first civil conversation, albeit short, we had had in two years.
Put you a spy hole in the fence. :D
There are a couple natural ones in it.
"Good Fences Make Good Neighbors" :) :)
Annuder day of sawing and fence building. I have a gate to build yet and some more old fence to tear out before this phase is complete. Those old poles are coming out hard using a railroad jack and chain.

Is there anything to hold the gate from swinging at the bottom? Pretty big sail area. Would hate to see all that hard work blown away.

Not yet. but there will be. The gate will pretty much always be locked down unleass I am mowing or for some other reason need to get something into that part of the yard.
Looks like the gate to Jurassic Park. What you trying to keep out? ;D
Great looking fence.
It's a shame you went to all that work and forgot to make it wide enough for the new mower to fit through :D :D :D. Just kidding, love the fence and gate!

The front fence is poly coated wire. Code does not allow an opaque fence beyond the front of the house. That fence is complete, the wire is almost invisible after 20 feet.

Those bleeding hearts are doing good.
I've done some expansion to our compound this last week. The polebarn that was part of the fence, is now within the fence, allowing me to open it up both sides and still have the dogs confined. I was able to get the woodmizer out before the weather turned and used it to resaw the 6" cedar cants I sawed out last year into fence boards. I was looking for this topic to post on and noticed I never shared the finished cedar gate. Ill start with that pic first.
