721E Hydro Ax quit propel forward and reverse, Hydraulics work, machine free-wheels, any thoughts?

I'm not familiar with that model but if it is free wheeling, my first suspect would be the two speed (high-low) gearbox. It could be a shift problem or internal mechanical.

Check the clevis pin in the fwd/rev shift spool for being worn thru first.  If the spool is shifting then id think its not got correct pressure.  the main pump could have a stuck relief valve, or if it has a sump tube that may have fallen off.  Clogging a sump screen overnight isnt likely but if its been getting progressively worse then maybe that.

The shift valve could have a broken spring or puked a seal.  And i doubt the fwd and reverse planetaries use the same band but bands and band anchors do occasionally pop.

Mike it likely dead on.  It is a two speed gearbox but only splash lubed.  A common failure here is the shaft of the hydrostat will strip out where it splines to the transmission input shaft.
