I was told by a Kohler rep the other day that there was a service bulletin out regarding the heavy duty air filters.  He said they are suggesting to remove the precleaner filter as it is restricting the air flow too much and causing the engines to run lean.  Anyone else hear anything about this?

I have not heard about it. Which engine series is it referring to? If anything, it would cause the engine to run rich, not lean, same as if the filter was plugged.

You are correct... rich, not lean.  Just a little mental typo there!  I have the Command Pro Series 27 hp, which by the way has been running rich ever since I got it.  Haven't had the chance to take the precleaner out and run it yet though.

Can't say that I've ever experienced it.  The filter is a Donaldson...used in many, many applicaitons.  In my opinion, the secondary filter is not adequate by itself.  One of the reasons that Peterson specs the Kohler the way that they do is becaue of that filration system.
