This is about a month back. Cutting a hard maple, I overcut one side of the hinge and it pinched my saw. Had to get out of the way, so the saw fell, the tree fell on top of the saw and caused the damage shown. Was able to do some bodywork on the saw cowling and all seems good. Glad I got out of the way as the tree landed right where I was. This was (and still is) a new MS 462-CM. Got lucky on that one!

@PoginyHill That's a tough one. Hate to see your saw like that.

Day before yesterday was my turn. I was cutting down some dead pines. I usually work alone so just to be safe I took my tractor and opened the grapple above my head and parked the tractor right up next to the tree. My thinking was maybe it would deflect any falling branches before they got to me. It was pretty windy that day and I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not. But I made my cut and started walking away when I saw the tree moving. I turned around just in time to see the but end of the log bounce into the air and land dead center of the tractor hood. It would have caused extensive damage if not for the bumper which stopped it. I felt about 2 inches tall. To add insult to injury the tree wasn't any good anyway.

Well, I was feeling better today, and since the weather is rain for tomorrow. I decided to work on my 90 year old mothers driveway instead of my Mikron 350 Pro. We had a small flood last week and it washed out her 5' culvert. I started and within 2 minutes I fell in the creek. Got up and figured I go put dry clothes on and said to myself "I just started so maybe I should hold off on that for a bit".....

and in less than 2 more minutes.........

.......I fell in again.

So, technically I did something pretty smart today. I guess perception is the key to success. :uhoh:

I could use some balance lessons at work. Fell on some ice first thing this morning. Then the last part too. The second one was the worse. Hit my head.  :rolleyes5: There was a guy I work with, and he saw it all. Asked if I was ok and I said, I have no idea. Both falls was reported. Just laying low tonight. I hope I wake up in the morning.  ffcheesy

You know I was thinking it may have had something to do with the green slime on the creek bed and rocks but now that you bring it up it's most likely a balance issue. Especially since "I fell on my ice" ffcool ffcheesy ffcheesy ffcheesy ffcheesy  twice! :uhoh:

Quote from: firefighter ontheside on February 26, 2019, 10:48:19 PMI made a cut and then went to raise the head so I could return it for the next cut.  Apparently I lowered the saw on accident instead of raised.  When I pulled the saw, the back of the blade hit the log and the blade came off the wheels.  At first I thought the blade broke, then I realized what had actually happened.  The blade appeared undamaged, but I was leery about putting it back on.  I figure at the least, some teeth got damaged.  Who's done this?

Good question! I can't recall from the picture what it might be. I'm away right now. I'll need to take a look at other pictures I took and the saw itself when I'm back at the house. It does look odd now that you've pointed it out.

Is that the machined recess for the plug?  Shining aluminum?

Wish I knew. I feel rather stupid not knowing - I'm guessing there is a simple explanation. Just can't access it now.

@SawyerTed was right. It is just the machined surface around where the plug goes in. The top is a bit discolored due to heat and sawdust. This angle shows it better.

IMG_71815B15D.JPG

Then that is covered by a plastic piece that separates the cooling fins from the intake.
