Went to an old engine show in west branch today I should not have went cause I have a severe back strain and cant hardly walk, but hey, I'm stupid. :D
Stupid thing number 2? I forgot my camera!
They have an old corley mill there. ITS GOT A FREAKING 10 FOOT DIAMETER BLADE! AND ITS PORTABLE!
I am strongly thinking about driving the 50 miles back there in the morning if I can get on my feet and taking some video and pictures. The DanG thing was amazing to stand next to. They didnt run it but they are supposed to tomorrow.
Can somebody give me an overnight cure for a back ache? Man I wanna go back! :-/ :'(
Yep. For the back: three 8oz. glasses of prune juice and some dmso. by moring you will have cleared everying up that has to do with your back. ;D
Follow franks cure with 8 8oz glasses of wild turky 8)
Whats dmso?
I have a twisty pelvis. Occasionally the DanG thing shifts and rolls and I end up looking like the tower of pisa. Right now I can sti I cant stand I cant lay and I gotta have help doing those things I can't do. Went to the cyropractor yesterday but it didnt help.
Will McMasters and coke work?
If he used that much wild turkey he would not even be able to find his keys to drive, let alone his truck to go the fifty miles tomorrow.
Besides, do you pluck the turkey before you put themin the eight glasses? :D :D :D :D :D :D :'(
dmso is a liminant tht we use out here in the West on horses with sprained or pulled muscles. It gives some people a onion type breath, but it is sure worth it for pulled muscles and such.
I have been like you sometimes, Jeff. No matter the position it is uncomfortable. I grab my bottle of dmso and using a serile gauze pad, rub the dampened pad of dmso across the small of my back and within minutes I can move quite freely.
if you dilute it with Coke you must use 16 glasses
I've never seen an unplucked turky that could fit in only 8 glasses everyone knows that you musty use 12 glasses if you leave the feathers on ;D :D ;D :D ;D :D ;D :D
A little jack can't hurt. Its better the 20 or 30 asprin ;D

Did anybody hear me say I saw a 10 FOOT HEAD SAW! :o :D
Jeff try the dmso stuff. My dad used it and it does work.
Couldn't stand to be around him after that, And when he
back fired we all ran for the hills.
Sawwood
I dont think you can get it here. We can get bag balm and wolfat(sp?) around here though. Both animal dressings. Similar?
Did I say I saw a big ass saw?
Jeff,
I have seen saws in the 8-10 ft range in shingle mills to cut single bolts, but never over 60 inches as a head saw. Whats it got for teeth?
Yep, Jeff, someone did see that you saw a big saw. It was Don. 8)
Hey Jeff try yellin', I don't think anybody is hearin' ya. :-/ Oh well I beleave ya, that ya saw a big ass saw. Really I do, really. ;D
Were they running it? Or was it just on display? I
'd think a blade that big would be a lot different to run than the 50-60" blade. If you had a log that big, it'd be a lot of teeth in the wood at one time. Take a lot of power to run a blade that big and keep the speed down. (would have to run slower RPM wouldn't it?)
Tammy and I are planning on getting up tomorrow and driving back over if I can function. The saw was an inserted tooth simonds saw. Heck, the saw plate looked new, I could read the simons stamp on it and from what I could tell it took an f pattern shank.
They had some flitches and boards there that were at least 4 foot wide from where they had run it earlier. l;ooked like cottonwood I will get pictures of all that. I heard thaey will be running it tomorrow morning so we will try to get there early.
The carriage on this thing is massive, but still hand set and has a place for a rider. it does have an all steel frame but sits on very large cross timbers.
Remember this pic from the historic photos thread? See the head saw standing there? I think it bigger then that.

We heared you we are trying to heal you so you can get some video of it running. The biggest one I ever saw myself was 64" I have seen pic's of the 80 incher that Goodyear had in thier mill just a few miles from my home. they had dog setters that rode the carraige. they say it was such a rough ride they only worked the dog setters in 3 hour shifts.
QuoteThey have an old corley mill there. ITS GOT A FREAKING 10 FOOT DIAMETER BLADE! AND ITS PORTABLE!
! :-/ :'(
Portable? I didn't hear that part Portable?
:o WOW Jeff! I sure hope you start to feel better and really soon so ya'll can get back up there and get some pics etc. That would be awesome to see.
I think a lil TLC from the wife might help your back...or at least take your mind off the pain ;D :D
FYI - DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) is an industrial solvent which was accidentally discovered to have the unusual property of treating the skin as though it was transparent AND further having the ability to carry anything mixed with it through the skin as well.
Many books have been written about this but the fact that it is so cheap and cannot be patented has inhibited research that would have had it on the market as one of the significant advances in medicine for the 20th century.
It also is the only effective treatment for scleroderma and is very effective in clearing bruises and helping arthritic inflammation. If used topically and intravenously, immediately after spinal or brain injury, it has been shown to reduce permanent damage significantly.
Well, I used bengay last night, its all we had. I seem to be moving better so we are going to take off in a few. Its rainy and stormy. I hope my huge saw safari is successful

She did say she would help me put on clean socks. :D
Boy I dont know,Jeff. Sometimes I think all these guys are blonde.
EZ
You need to be pulled to help your back.. Lay on the bed and hold the top of the mattress. Have Your wife pull you by the ankles but not so hard that it makes you move off the bed. As long as she can pull let her. Then just lay there and relax. It does wonders. If she thinks she is hurting you she will pull longer and harder. Payback or some thing.
Now go get them pictures of the Big A$$ saw so we can see it.
ARKANSAWYER
Who wants to saw big asses anyway? I thought this forum was about sawing wood. :D
Having someone walk on your back helps sometimes as well, sorta like a primitive chiropractor. I used to let my last girlfriend walk all over me ::) :D
Now where's that big 'ol headsaw at?
Jeff,
When I hurt my back, I end up making it worse by trying to hold it motionless while I go on with life. Then, a lot more hurts from holding muscles tense. A friend told me to try Midol. My wife got a Midol equal (to save money) and it didn't work. She got tired of seeing me hobbling about and bought Midol. Three hours later, I was cured. Warning: if taken with beer, plan on sleeping.

PS What do you mean "portable"?
Here is a teaser for now, I spent 3 hours with the folks that put this mill together. They are Missouri folk! I'll post more later with video and pics and a story about my new friends, Father and Son, Les and Dale McKenney.
Pictured is Dale and I

MORE NOW >:(
I thought I made this earlier. must have been lost in traffic.
Take Midol for a sore back. When mine is sore, I hold it rigid and don't leave it flex. This makes it worse. Midol stops the cramps in the muscles. It works wonders in a couple hours.
Yep,that is a big a33 saw sho nuff.womder how long it would take to file that dude by hand? can't hardly wait to see the engine to run it.That'ud probly make even a 671 suffer huh
HOOOWEEEEE. I couldn't afford a change of bits :D :D :D :D
I may try the midol honey. :D
Actually I will try it at this point, the muscles is whats causeing all the problems. contracting and spasing and pulling me every which way. I went and tried to lay down and really am knotted up now. Everybody is gone but when they get back I am sending them on a midol run and they better go right away or they are going to get the silent treatment. humph. ;D
See justthe thought of taking it is effecting me. ;)
Jeff, for your back, go spilt a cord of wood, I'm serious, if'n you need some blocks, I got 'em. Use a 6# maul and keep your backswing and follow thru staight. At least it works for me!
Well Jeff I was going to ask you how much wild turkey you had before you seen this saw :obut with that picture I guess maybe there is somthing to it. ;)
Back pain is a killer you can't sit up can't sit down. been there I feel for anyone with back pains.
