I'm trying to figure out some chimney dimensions. Is 6" wall thickness about right for a field stone chimney?

Are you talking about the thickness/size of the rocks that you will put on the flue squares ???

6 inches on the outside of the flue is about right. I had a chimney fire in mine once years ago. I went up in the attic and felt to see if it was hot. It was not

Generally a flue is encased in 4x8x16" cement blocks then the stone veneer is added to it. an 8x8 with a 18x18 beside it would take up 4"+18"+4"+8"+4" [38"] wide and 4"+18"+4" [26"]deep add another flue, the width of the flue plus 4". 6" for stone on each side is ok. Chimneys get big fast

Thanks guys. Blocks + ~6" for stone seems to be the consensus, for a 10" total wall thickness. Thanks for the help.
