Here is vid of the slab cutting machine I been working on for the last couple of months. Perhaps this should be in the firewood section but I thought it might bd appropriate here as dealing with slabs is a universal problem.
Regardless this is the first take of the first time we fired this puppy up.

I've seen a local version that worked on the same idea. It was powered by a decent size farm tractor, and dropped the wood onto a small elevator belt that loaded it into his dump truck. He figured that even if a log was 100% rejects, he broke even selling it for firewood, as it was all processed and in the dump truck with no extra handling.

Wow.  it does work great and seems to be a one off.  Are there machines that inspired you?  It has a Dudley-do-right flare if anyone remembers that cartoon.  It is hard to tell the circ blade rpm in the video.  Any idea what it is?  looks like the blade is direct drive, how about the conveyor.  Very cool. mustache-smiley ffsmiley

That's great!  Slab processing is such a headache sometimes!  This solves much of that.

Keep us posted on how it performs over time.

Yeah, nice work Percy. Dealing with slabs is a necessary evil and anything you can do to automate will benefit long term.

Nice pendulum design.  Looks like a counterweight to help the movement when needed to go through the wood.?

Wow. Great response. I will go into it in detail soon. I still have a component I need to add( a couple of hold down wheels to keep the short pieces from teetering over and not activating the trigger switch making for a too long piece of firewood. Plan to sell the slab firewood same price as my son. He sells for 100.00 a pickup load( u load). He had a commercial machine that does what mine does   It's where I got a lot of my ideas 😁

Awesome and scary at the same time.  Methinks a safety shield on each side is absolutely positively needed.  But yeah, I need one.

Looks great. Anything that you can do to reduce or replace manual labor is a plus. Kind of like taking steps to save steps or something like that.

I looked at that pendulum swinging and thought of the old movie with Vincent Price "The Pit and the Pendulum".  Old time horror flick.
I am in the pink when sawing cedar.

That is a cool contraption   I missed an "upcut saw" for cheap at an auction (forgot about it) that I wanted to use for similar purposes. Like this but old https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44IKcfzuwGY - big blade in a cabinet, used air to lift blade for cut and also for hold downs

The slabs have those thoughts in mind as they travel down the conveyor belt.  smiley_crying :SHOCKED1: running-doggy
