Drying and Processing / Re: Nyle L200M compressor

There can be several reasons for a short compressor life, many last the life of the unit but most are in the 10-12 year range. The biggest culprit is usually bad power.

Unfortunately, it's a corporately owned car (my insurance buddy says they are notoriously hard to deal with) and they have another guy from a different business that handles the claims for them. Well, he originally contacted my son with info and I didn't realize it, so there was a week or two where I didn't hear anything from them after attempting to contact them. Then, once I explained what the situation was (he was dealing with a kid that doesn't know anything, and the kid isn't the owner of the car) I was getting decent response. I did what was required of me and now we're a week and a day deep with no response. He's also the type that has his phone go straight to voicemail, and ignored calls from me for about a week and a half. I'll keep it up but it's likely not worth the effort to take it to small claims court or something like that, I'm only out a hundred bucks to make the car drivable.

I may try my insurance, but when I initially called them to give them a crash report number, they made it clear that since it was the other person's fault that they (my insurance) had nothing to do with it...

Sawmills and Milling / Re: Ain't Normal

I have millable P Pine standing (dying) timber so close to my mill I don't need to move my log loader truck (sitting beside the live deck)  to reach them with the cable and they are still not worth milling! Only logs here still worth harvesting are Doug fir, Cedar and nice Oak. I have dying P Pine over four ft. dia. and still not worth sawing. The pines hereabouts mostly grows on the ridge tops while Fir and cedar tend to grow in the canyons which means mostly what I want is harder to harvest as it is down in those canyons. We have lost thousands of our trees and it's getting worse! Does anybody here know if it is a good practice to cut down standing /dying, beetle trees to reduce beetle spread?

Well as is typical, you are somewhat correct Howard, I was looking forward, but not for writing opportunities, I was thinking more about how this would play out in court as a defamation case. ffcheesy

As for Doc not weighing in, I think he is preferring to retain culpable deniability. He is likely so overwhelmed that he can't even decide where to begin. When you wrote of him administering Betadine IM he had to be thinking about malpractice issues and defense strategies. Where did you get your medical training Howard? The DJT all night med school, car wash, and investment counseling school? ffcheesy

The scale goes to 20'. For longer stuff, I scale the small end and then halfway down. And I am plugged now.  ffcheesy ffcheesy ffcheesy

I have had good luck just using that road fabric they lay down, I think it's called 'geo-tech' or something like that. It lets the rain through, so you don't have puddling issues and it breathes well. If you have a source, small pieces can be had cheap or even cheaper.
I use it for shading mushroom log stacks and getting the rain through is important, keeping direct sun off is also important.
Good luck, let us know what you come up with. What are your overnight temps in there?

QuoteResonator is considering it I hear.
Um... :uhoh:
Don't know that I could add to your vivid imagination drawn in pencil and paper.

Though if it does become a screenplay and made into a movie, let me know and I can write a song for the soundtrack. (For a nominal fee of course.)

Drying and Processing / SHADE CLOTH FOR SOLAR KILN?
Last post by DON FRANK - Today at 10:39:44 AM
This is the first spring/summer i have used my solar kiln. Our daytime temps have not reached 90 yet, mostly 70's-80's and I have had days where my kiln temps are 120-140. Much hotter than I want. My kiln is made with aluminum skinned foam panels for walk in freezers so the R-value is higher than most of the solar kiln builds.

Did some searching on green house sun shade material and I can get a shade tarp that will work for about $60. The sell them in 30-60% shade. I'm leaning towards the 30%. I will have to rig up a system to raise and lower it easily depending on the day.

If anyone has had some experience with this avenue your comments would be appreciated.

Turns out a standard brick will slide snuggly into a pipe. I shoved 2 in, and deployed it where I dug out the pond connecting channel. It's not near as deep there, and I may have a better chance finding it in a few weeks when I put a go pro down to check it out. That is if I can find my gopro. Aint used it in 2 years.
