Title: Chestnut oak knotts for bowls

I cut 3 nice 10" to 12" knotts off a chestnut oak I cut down a couple of weeks ago.

I want to try and use a shapeing bit on an angle grinder to make a bowl.

Should I soak them in mineral oil before I start or after or something else.

I keep them in a garbage can full of water until you are ready to carve. They like to check. By knot, do you mean a broken off limb repair, or a burl? I'd also start with the end of a chainsaw before going to the angle grinder. A 12" bowl has a lot of wood to get rid of!

These are from a broken off limb and it grew over it.
