My brother has pile of mockernut hickory that's been sitting about 2-3 yrs...he no longer needs it.
Yet, I've noticed most of it has a few small insect holes, about 3-4 holes per stick I'd say. :P

Is this too much of risk transporting back to my house for firewood...its about a half a cord...the wood is still hard as nails & intact.

Just checking with somebody with more experience with hickory and bugs!

Thanks,
Reg

Are the holes open and the tunnels with a blackish coating?  Or, are the holes small and filled with frass (excreted sawdust)?  Small, open, blackish holes will be ambrosia beetles, and they are not a problem.  Small holes filled/packed with powder can be powderpost beetles, and these are the ones that you dot want to breed in your wood because they can infest and ruin dry hardwood, like unfinished hardwood lumber.
