I have an sthil 029 super and the chain break handle is flopping around when in the off position. It still works in the on position , but when off it flops back towards the handle. I took off the side cover and don't see any thing obvious is the handle broken or did a spring fall out some where?

The 029 and it's larger brother the 039 are consumer saws and as such have a lot plastic used in their construction as opposed to professional models .

Now that said ,that brake mechanism has two springs .A long one that keeps the brake band expanded if not set and a short one which activates the over center pawl which keeps the brake engaged once set .

More than likely either that shorter spring came undone or the rachet pawl has came apart some how .Your going to have to sort that out yourself as it's impossible to repair a saw over the internet .

I found it. The pin that holds the small spring was gone. easy fix. thanks
