Shop Dust Collector

Currently running 2- 220v grizzly dust collectors. They have trouble removing all the dust from my Logosol PH 260. I've been looking at a lot of 3 hp cyclone collectors & have it narrowed down to the Baileigh 3 hp DC- 2100 C or the C/Flux 3 Laguna collector. Does anyone have any knowledge of these or recommendations on other collectors?

I recently purchased a moulder that recommended 5,000 CFM. After a lot of searching I settled on a Laguna. I can't recommend them or any other brand but after searching that was my choice. Good luck!

Oneida has a line-up of industrial dust collectors.  I use their dust cyclone for my shop dust collection and a small dust deputy for my shop vac and both work great.  I use a CNC system which generates some superfine sawdust and the cyclones do the job on collecting most all of it.

If you are running 2 now at the same time, you might consider a 5 hp system.  It will still be 220V single phase, but will allow you to run multiple machines simulataneuosly, if needed.  With molders and planers, sometimes chips will not get removed adequately and will cause indentations into the finished surface by the pressure rollers.

Chip marks, the primary cause of them is actually chips making it back around the cutterhead and beating into the board as it is moving by, but for either suction is the place to start.

I have a friend who just bought a new Woodmizer ph260 Moulder.  He bought a Woodmaster 5 hp blower only, http://www.woodmastertools.com/NS/accessdetail.cfm?PID=88, like the one slowjoecrow installed in his shop.  The CFM is greater than the chip collector that Logosol sells so we will see how it works in a couple of weeks when he gets it going.

Think you can get a super dust deputy with a 6" opening to go with the woodmaster blower, which would sort the wood dust from the air, and you could just dump the air outside your building.  I have a cyclone setup 3hp and it about doubles the air flow when I vent outside. Also have it rigged so I close a blast gate and use the filter on cold days.

My friend got his Logosol 260 going and the woodmaster blower works really good so far.  He has it mounted outside with a 6" open end spiral pipe about 20' long.

I would like to do this with my setup eventually.  However, I am very happy with my setup that I built.  I have a huge filter, can you add on to the end of the filter or upgrade to a bigger one?

Those that you mentioned appear to have short cyclone tapers and might not filter particulates the best.

That super dust deputy is about the least expensive way to make a cyclone from a blower.  My old dustcop has a really long cone, also has a vertical pipe inside, and is really efficient. Only chips I find outside are when I run the barrel over.  But still have a cloud of dust outside when I use my widebelt.  Thing is, there is a lot of fine dust in the barrel as well.

I have a JDS 3HP which is the same as the Laguna except for the color and power switch model.     JDS no longer makes dust collectors and they referred me to Laguna to get a replacement part.   I think they are made in the same factory in China.   I can't speak for handling the 4 sided molder, but my JDS handles the 18" Woodmaster at full width 1/8" rips pretty well.    I'll be testing it with the 3-sided molding attachment in the next few months when I start making my flooring.
