Knife Storage Block - Saturday Project
« on: July 10, 2021, 05:45:14 PM »
I've never made a knife block before, but today was the day.  My aunt asked me to make it so she could give it to my cousin for her new house.  This is made with walnut and jatoba.  I took 3 pieces of 6/4 walnut and glued them together and then cut the slots on the table saw.  Then I glued the jatoba over the slot openings.  A small piece of walnut cut on and angle is glued underneath to help it stand.  Finished with boiled linseed oil.  It took me a long time to make, so it ended up costing my aunt $80, but it had a lot of walnut in it and the jatoba isn't cheap.

Nice job. I didn't charge my wife for hers. I made it maybe 40 yrs back from walnut and decided to stand it straight up to use less counter space. A son gave us one of thos store bought bristles types and we switched to it then back to mine. I made lots more slots in mine FWIW as we use a bunch of knives of various blade sizes.
