URBAN FORESTRY POSITION IN SE WISCONSIN

Forestry Specialist - Urban Forester
(Location: TBD, WI)

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Ė Division of Forestry is currently seeking a Forestry Specialist Ė Urban Forester to work in 4 counties in the southeastern area of the state.  This positionís primary responsibility is to administer the regionís urban forestry assistance program with the goal of encouraging sound management practices.   

Duties will include: assessing urban forestry needs of local governments, non-government organizations, private and public sectors; developing strategies to address needs; assisting local governments and organization with their urban forestry management programs; administering regional Urban and Community Forestry Assistance Grants; developing a regional urban forestry database; and promoting urban forestry awareness.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, a proven strategic thinker, and a creative problem solver.  Successful applicants will have superior customer service skills and a strong aptitude for building trusting relationships and networks.  A well qualified candidate will have knowledge in tree physiology, arboriculture, and urban forestry management practices.

Wisconsin has a progressive, nationally recognized urban and community forestry program.  Wisconsin was ranked 3rd in the nation in Tree City USA communities last year.  The successful candidate will be part of a statewide urban forestry team which develops and implements strategic urban forestry ideas and programs to impact the future of the state.  The successful candidate will specifically be responsible for an area that encompasses 88 communities, 22 of which are Tree City USA certified, and includes a total population of 590,000.  These communities present unique challenges and opportunities because of their rapid population growth and expansion.
