of hunting season has any one got any pic they want to show off (big or small doe or buck) i like to see  youngsters with deer makes me think back to my first on 31/4 in spikes and was shaking like a dog crapping on a brier bush

My grandson Sam wanted to hunt with me this year. Opening morning he got his first deer -- a 9 point buck. Not a bad way to start

Good buck whatever age the hunter is,, just wondering the law there on blaze orange requirements, some years ago they instituted a 400sqin minimum here, and do not allow the camo pattern vests.
only have a few chain saws I'm not suppose to use, but will at times, one dog Dolly, pretty good dog, just not sure what for yet,  working on getting the gardening back in order, and kinda thinking on maybe a small bbq bizz,  thinking about it,

Drobertson,
Michigan requires hunter Orange during gun season be visible from all sides. Camo patterns can be used but must have 50% of the area be open orange

thanks, and that makes perfect sense to me,  I suppose there must have been a tragedy in the past resulting in the law makers changing our requirements.  they say it does not matter, the deer are color blind, but I'm sure not, the reflection off my glasses just about drives me crazy at times.  I'm sure that young man is still excited about his trophy!

On the down side, two deer hunters killed opening week-end in Missouri, another hunter shot hisself in leg trying to load his rifle.

One of the fatalities came from a deer blind heater explosion, the other fatality came from falling out of tree stand.

This cold weather is tough on folks, deer 'cabin blinds' and huts are a hot item right now. Warm-up and rain this next week-end.

that's to bad   I fell out of a tree stand once and only once will never go in one again     the next thing they will try to do is out law tree stands

You have to be a proud G-Pa, Stan.

I should read the posts a little closer ;D that is an awesome buck for the first one and yes you should be a proud pa pa   tell him next year it has to be 10point or bigger  :D :D :D

Swatson

That deer is awesome!  Especially for a first one.  I shot one this year and it was a freak of nature.  One long spike on one side and three points on the other.  They say inbreeding causes it.  They taste the same as the ones with nice antlers. ;D
I cant figure out which one I like better: working with wood or making the tools to work with wood.

Opening day today, and this buck was following 3 deer past my stand about 50 minutes after opening bell.

A keeper. Came real close to getting a good shot at a big doe that was with the bunch, but passed.

Our opening day (gun) was the first of the month.  I got out opening morning for about 3hrs and again a week later for maybe 2hrs in the afternoon.  Got out today for about 20min.  ;D ;) :D

Was still working my way into the woods with my climbing stand on my back, with my pack and cold weather clothes attached (it was 12° this moring).  Stopped for a sec, heard 'something', something was getting closer.  Knelt down, slowly slid the climber off my back.  He was headed right for me, new moon today and the rut is in full swing (smelly bugger).  He was behind a bunch of thick brush, I could see some movement but barely any of the body let alone antlers.  Then he stepped past the brush, I saw antlers and boom, dropped where he stood.  He was only 16yds from me. ;D

Oldest got his first lesson on gutting deer, not that he had a great teacher. :-[  Every time I go to do it I still never feel like I'm not doing it right, or at least not very quickly.  In my defense, it had been five years since the last one. :)

Like BT we used the tractor bucket retrieval method, just like the one from 5yrs ago.  (just a different color bucket ;))

Good luck to those looking to fill their tags and congrats to those that have. :)

Congrats guys on successful opening day hunts and some nice bucks.  Maybe I should have shot, but our season goes for over two months.
