I've been thinking about an initiative to repurpose junk wood cuttings into firewood instead of disposing of them. What are your thoughts on this idea? Do you think it's a practical and environmentally friendly approach to managing wood waste? I'd love to hear your opinions and any suggestions you might have.

Welcome to the Forestry Forum.

Can you help us out with what you call junk wood?

A pic or two would help.

If it will burn, and you can get it packaged for presentable firewood (thinking of bundles to sell at roadside or at stores or markets? ) or delivered piles like truckloads? Interested in your thoughts.

Sounds like you have come up with an idea that has been taking place since man began to square timber.

all my stuff that comes off the mill that cannot make something like a bench, gets cut to length, split if needed and put in a metal crate.  I do firewood for the woodstoves but also chiminea and fire pit.  Was a scout master, and much of the soft stuff went for campfire.  hard wood from the shop, gets made into segmented bowls and turnings, so it has to get pretty small and junky to not find a purpose.

I stack my firewood on wooden pallets that  might be lucky to last 5 years They are all freebies .When they get all funky I cut them up and burn in my patio fire ring .They all burn up except the nails however after a few years in the woods they will rust up  to nothing .I do however have a bunch of magnets on a pole and gather most of them from the ashes before hand .
That fire ring is the 38" rear rim from a 1940 John-Deere model A with a fire brick bottom .It will hold a lot of ashes. I only dig them out around every two or three years .I've spent many hours around that thing enjoying copious amounts of adult beverages attempting  to solve the problems of the world .Not making much head way on those problems so far .
