timberjack shifting problems

hello a friend of mine has a 208 with a 3-53 and a ford 4 speed w/ forward reverser. It will move in 1st and 2nd but it stalls in 3rd an 4th. did some monkeying with it took top cover off slide sliders back a forth with manual resistance. the forward reverser seems to functioning properly the odd thing is that with trans in neutreual you move the high low range into gear an the skidder wants to move? any one got some ideas?

sounds like tranny is locked in between gears

So does the clutch operate ok? If it does then you likely have gearbox issues. Did you pull the stick out of the transmission? Seen those sticks come out of place because of wear, then you are engaging two gears at once hence the stall out. You need to make sure that when you put the cover down that the shift forks are in the right places and that the plastic guides are in place.

Clutch works fine had cover off shifted by hand seemed ok?
