Are you telling us that Phil isn't a native to PA ???  Have they run out of woodchucks in PA ???

I think woodchucks are pretty cute. Too bad they mess up people's crops and fields.

You have to have at least 1/2 your wood and 1/2 your hay to celebrate it.

I like them we have several that live in various places on the farm, including "Rosie" who send under the kiln. I set up a game camera at ground level by a rose bush to get photos if her, thus the name. Well, at least we presume Rosie is a her...

From what I was told when this transaction took place  this was this groundhogs lot in life, and  it was on its way East as a replacement.... they only live so long.  I also think the fact that  hand tame pet ground hogs are a little hard to find played into it..  I  double checked this story a couple days ago with my client she said yes that was it it was true as told to her.
So that's a recent brush with fame and a b list holiday mascot, although I once flew goats to California to be in a movie.   It was never finished and the goats flew back home after a few  months of living the high life...
You know.,,...if it was an A-list holiday mascot the Easter bunny  or Rudolph then I would really have a story. ;)

I've got over half my hay left and maybe 1/2 cord over half of the firewood i put up. I'M golden to party ....  8)
Too bad I'm on call this weekend.
Still  am going to try and enjoy this day it's as nice as February ever gets here.

Bright sunny morning here and not too cold. :o What's up with that? Anyhoo, looks like we are in for another 6 weeks.

Sunny here also in the s/e Olympics. "Rufus" the mountain beaver (aka marmot) saw his shadow, so I guess we get more winter. If we get much more rain we're going to float away. Jan. saw 31/31 days with rain and 44.7 in. :o That's a lot even for us. I guess that's why it's called a temperate rain forest. My sawmill quietly weeps under the tarp waiting for spring. After a very dry end to 2019, I wasn't surprised by the "catch up" to start the year. It would be nice if it lightens up a bit. Now I'm just whining.

It must of been a non farmer that came up with ground hog day .I do know until we got our first disc bine those cute little gophers would play havoc on the sickle bar mowers knives .But we still have 2 months before we see them here out of hibernation here and the fun starts again.

sawguy21

I imagine they would be hard on a sickle mower ;D

In this neck of da woods, 6 more weeks of winter, means spring will be early.  8)

I saw a ground hog about a week ago, unusual in January around here, but the weather has been unusual.

I just read that the tradition of groundhog day came from England where it was hedgehogs they used but those critters are in short supply here in the US so groundhogs were the substitute. Not to be confused with those dang blasted gophers you find in the hay fields here in the gopher state. We have bounties on them DanG gophers in every county.

Oh by the way, the story I read said the groundhog is right only 40 % of the time. So a coin flip may be more accurate.
