I have an opportunity to get some persimmon logs to mill up.  I've never heard of this species before.  I'm curious on how much this wood sells for per board foot.

some call it white walnut.  a good hardwood.  may need sterilized.  the stuff i cut for a guy was full of bugs, and after he air dried it, I sterilized it for him.

Very difficult to find persimmon lumber.  It is valuable.  I sell it for the same price as walnut.  I sell some that is quartersawn, clear, and kiln dried, planed for $20 to $25 per bf for guitar fingerboards.  Not a lot of volume but a lot of value.  The turkey call makers really like it too.

Butternut is known as white walnut, persimmon is the American ebony. To me it seems closer kin to  smiley_devil

It is very difficult to dry flat, for sure.

I picked up a persimmon log once and vowed not to do it again. It warped and twisted really bad and stunk! Maybe a bacterial infection?? I think this particular log was just a dog.
I do what the little voices in my wife's head tell me to do.
