I found a large (12") drawshave in a barn. It is marked L. & I. J. White, Buffalo, N.Y. It appears to be in good condition. However, I found that the cross section of the blade has a sharpened bevel on the bottom side, and is nearly, but not quite flat on the top. The blade is 5/16" thick and 2-1/8 wide. My question is this; does this large drawshave have the correct cross section?
Or could it have been sharpened incorrectly?

I would think it is correct. Try it on a log, see how it peels the bark, he angle on the bottom prevents you from gouging the log.

Stephen1 is right on the blade explanation.
