We have to remember most lumber then was cut with a pit saw, one bloke above and the other in the pit. Such simple machinery would seem like a god sent. Guess where the term "the pits" came from. Modern sash saws are still used in some countries and their not slow but the early ones were. Mayby a good use for broken bands, fit them in a frame for a low impact sash saw. Frank C.

As part of the tour at the eastern timber framer guild conference next month in NH, we're going to tour a water powered sash saw still operating in Derry, NH. Hopefully he'll have enough water to mill a log for us to watch.
It is owned an operated by the parks department of the state of NH. And is only open on weekends from Memorial day to Labor day.
