I have had my saw blades re tipped in the past , but they don't seam to be as good as the originals .Today I had two blades lose two carbide tips each in two logs and the logs were Redwood with no rocks/dirt or metal. The cost of new blades is so high , any ideas.

Find a better saw doc?

I mean the tips are simply brazed on to the blade when it's initially made. Replacement tips can be brazed on in pretty much the same manner, and should be comparable quality?

But poor quality "weld" or the wrong grade of carbide will give you grief. Have a look at the failures, has the join failed, or has the carbide shattered, leaving some of the cutter still attached? That gives you a place to start.

Call the place you did them. They SHOULD go good on them,if it has not been too long. Some places want you as a customer and some just don't care.

as Ian said you should try a different saw doc , have you ever had your saw tension checked that could be one reason the saw don't saw as well when returned from the doc as far as the tips falling off if they were installed right the carbide should break  before falling off I have hit metal and broke off 4 tips but the weld was fine

As the other lads have mentioned Peder - check the teeth, if they have shattered - hit something, then TCT will be left attached to solder,if no TCT left and only solder in the pocket, then the teeth have let go - bad soldering from saw doctor. If the saw doctor comes good on fixing them, give him another chance, if not move on to another saw doctor.

There's a thread here somewhere on doing your own replacement teeth. Didn't look to be rocket science. Maybe a bit more like brain surgery.   :D

Two new saw blades over-nite from Left Coast Supply and I'm back at it. Sent the old ones to Bill Dooley in Portland to be re tipped (New Saw Doc  too me ) Happy
