Caught this guy slipping around my barn tonight, been planing dry pine boards today in here...is he up to no good?  :D

I would have a serious talk with him if I was you .  Either that or spray some silicone on him :D.

that is some species of longhorned beetle.  See them by the dozens around the landing and freshly cut timber.  They are attracted by the smell of freshly felled timber - that's what the long antenna are used for.  Most of then are host specific like pine only or fir only but some are generalists.  Your planing has liberated some of those attractive scents and it's what got the beetle to appear.   They chew holes (notice those front chompers) in the bark to lay their eggs and the larvae feed on the sapwood and cambium.  I've seen grubs as long and as thick as my thumb.  There are many species - the Asian longhorned ash borer is devastating ash forests in the east and Midwest - but I have no idea what species yours is
