i've never sold any work, but I'd like to start.  Not quite sure how to jump into the "industry".  in the meantime, i'm slowly furnishing my house. 

I'm re-furnishing my home, too...at least part of it. Two bedrooms have store-bought Queen Anne furniture and I've built QA end tables and a coffee table for the living room.

I do woodworking as a hobby but it's very gratifying to have someone want to pay for my work. It's also neat to have the hobby be self-funding. It keeps LOML from getting upset at my tool purchases.   ;D

I have more requests for custom furniture than I have time or desire to build. I don't advertise other than word-of-mouth but it just sorta happens. People see something that I've built for someone else and either want one or have a custom request.

While I do some high-end stuff like the Hal Taylor rocking chair, the patio/lawn furniture are very in-demand items as are blanket chests.

I also build a lot of stuff free for friends and family which is great advertising, I guess because more people see it and then contact me.

If I didn't have a good day job, I probably couldn't sell a bird house.   ;)

Dan, I just gotta ask, are you going to work on chainsaws on that table? It doesn't look like it is large enough to park your bike for maintaince. ;)

My table saw has extensions from www.woodpeck.com but I cannot find them on there site right now. I like them because they are removable and attach to the incra fence system. They fold for storage. I do not hammer on them, I save that for my workbench.

My shop isn't big enough to house all them clamps. I'd have to hang'm out in the barn rafters. :D

I've been asked various times if I make stuff to sell, the answers so far as been "nope". ;D

I went crazy with some overtime checks from my former job and filled up the rack I had bought from Woodpeck. They all hang on the wall. Was greatfull for the OT back then to build a dream shop. My copilot then was a fantastic woodworker. I told him one day I wanted to replace the equipment at my old house when the new place was built. That night he showed up with a woodworking catalog all marked up and said here is what you need. I will help you set it all up. He said jokingly. Well a few days later I said Rick the tools will arrive Thursday hope you are coming down. He said which ones? I said all. I had been saving. He was surprised but we build a nice shop that weekend. Now if I just had as much skill as he does. I had been saving my pennies for several years knowing I wanted a nice shop and instead of buying over time just waited and did it mostly at once. My basement shop is 26 by 32 with 10 foot ceiling so you do not have to worry much about hitting a light like my old shop. it is walk out thru the garage so easy to bring stuff in.

Kalbfleisch!   I was in Germany, on my way down to Italy where my wife's folks live, looking at a menu,  and we saw kalbfleisch........my wife's German isn't as good as her Italian and no one there spoke English.................until one local made the horns sign above his head and said, " Einer kleiner moo"   meaning little cow ..or ..veal.

And that's veally the truth! :D :D :D

True, Kalbfleisch is veal meat and my great grandparents owned a business in Germany that made steak knives of all things! I have been to the old family home but unfortunately it was like 5 years after being sold and all the shop stuff was gone. You can find in Germany silverware with the Kalbfleisch name, I have some. My grandfather came here in the 30's and worked as a machinist in the LA area.

You're a lucky guy, George.  I am too as I got to retire 5 years ago and make stuff every day in wood or anything else.  Make stuff every day and you'll get better.  Reading the forum will give you ideas and exercise your imagination.  Coming up with your own solution to a problem/puzzle is immensely satisfying! 8)
