PatD has never made Bean Soup, so this is a new one for us.

Black, Pinto, & Kidney beans along with corn, hamburger meat, and whatever else.

Of course Yellow Cornbread and Tostitos on the side.

Me too  reminded me of a fellow I knew in Troy, AL. He used to make what he called "cryin bean soup" with a consistency more like chili. He used to say it was so good it would make you cry! He wasn't far off!

I still make the pot of beans that was featured here on the forum years ago, modified the last time by adding a pound of brisket burnt ends.

Bean soup is a regular here. I make mine using dry beans. Ours is accompanied with a crusty white Italian bread.

My crystal ball shows that appearing on my stove in the near future.

As I see it red/black/pinto beans, whole kernel corn, diced tomatoes, deer burger and seasoning with cornbread and corn chips on the side. The cloud in the ball is shifting but flashes of okra keep showing up as a possibility too. ffsmiley

   Thanks for the idea.

Plus it is sorta like chili in that it's getting better with each meal.  At least I did not have it for breakfast this morning.  :wink_2:

That's one of the best things about soup.

I've had a mix of beans and lentils in soup here a couple times in the past 2 weeks, plus weekly baked beans with corn bread or biscuits. Due for another pot of chilli soon with my own sauce and crushed tomatoes I canned.  Canned them whole, but the blender does the crushing. ffcool

JD on the crying bean chili, what was the time frame from eating chili until the crying started?  Maybe 2 to 6 hours later?

The picture is not a nice as I'd hoped but the soup was good.

First I mixed up a box of cornbread and put it in a 8X8 pan in the oven to cook while I made the soup.

Next in the big stockpot above I browned and crumbled a little over a pound of deer burger with about 1/3 of a medium onion I found in the fridge and diced it up. Then I added a can of ref beans, one of pinto beans, one of black beans, one whole kernel corn, one of diced tomatoes and one of tomato sauce. All cans were 15-16 oz so I guess this. with the meat, was about 3-3.5 quarts of soup. The only liquid was what was in the canned veggies.

I seasoned with salt, black pepper and a dusting of chili powder. Since all the canned items were already cooked I just let it simmer till the cornbread was done then set everything on the table. I crumbled a handful of corn chips in my bowl and ladled soup over them. The soup was pretty good but I am not a big fan of pinto beans and may leave them out next time.  I thought about sprinkling some shredded Mexican/Taco cheese on top and bet that would have been good. I also bet some diced green onions would have been good.

There is plenty left of leftovers for a meal or two.

I'm making a bean and beefy veg soup tomorrow. Got a litre (a little bigger than a pint) of home grown tomatoes that's going in.  ffwave Beans, lentils, barely, rice, split peas. Good stuff.
