Just wondering if there are any plans or designs on here  or if someone has some advise on the topic?

What is the best material

Tree Feller

When you walk into the main entrance at Home Depot, on the left there is a large display of magazines. There will be one there on Pergolas. You will find designs from the simple to the ornate and everything in between. That's where I would go.

As for the wood, you will obviously want something that is weather resistant. PT Pine is a popular choice but some other choices might be ERC, WRC, White Oak, Cypress, Redwood (West Coast).

I just now typed pergola into google images.  It came back with 7,850,000 pictures to browse.  I would pick a design I liked and draw up plans in SketchUp.  All free and in the end you will have a unique structure.

If you need help to size timbers that can also be found for free online.

Built one on my deck when I rebuilt it 3 or 4 years ago;  no plans except what was in my hay-id.  Raining right now;  maybe some pics tomorrow.
