BT, what other ways do you think it is spreading?

The EAB beetle apparently can fly short distances, up to 1/2 mile. In that short distance, they could encounter trucks and cars that can carry them much further.

Admit just a guess which I think is the best anyone has done so far.

There's way more logs and pulp going down the roads than firewood in totes to campgrounds. Maybe some folks don't live by normal routes used for mill wood. Where I live there's wood moving to a mill on back roads and 4 lane every day. On my road, which is dead end, there's been wood moving every week from clearcuts for the last 3 years. Our woods is full of ash, it grows like weeds everywhere. No one can convince me that it's not on those loads, if anywhere. They had the same song and dance with the spruce long horn beetle, blamed it on the little guy.

Firewood for camping is dry, not great for borers. Logs are green, great for borers.

Early this spring I only saw two or three adult borers .The ash itself has all been killed off with only little saplings left standing .Fact last week or so i finished cutting up the last of the large EAB killed ash for firewood . It was a dandy,100 footer with a tad over 3 cords of wood I had been cutting on for the last two or three years .I had it down to the main trunk and borrowed my neighbor's Bob Cat skid loader to carry out the logs which those were 8 footers because of the spacing of the  trees on the trail .
