I have a woodmaster 434 with just a 12" or so above the burner stack. I've been having issue with the wood in back not burning good/alot of black chunks and not good hot embers.

But if I leave the damper open a 1/4 way problem solved gets better air flow then. Would putting a longer chimney stack on create more air flow with the damper shut? The fan is on the door and only has1 fan.

I assume I'd burn a little less wood not having to keep the damper open all the time.

Thoughts?

I'm guessing what is happening is the air is hitting the wood and jumping straight up above the tubes and out the chimney. Opening the damper at the rear of the tubes sends some air to the back. I don't think a higher chimney will change anything, it's how that model is designed. ?
