I have been working the night shift. My brother had 23 tons of crush and run delivered this morning and I spread it for him with my skid steer. Had I not I probably would have been wondering where all the limbs came from.
I saw a truck parked at the end of the drive with tree service markings on it. I went up and asked if they were cutting any large trees today and if they were I would be happy to take any straight trunks. They said no and that they were just clearing the phone lines. I went back to work, they moved up the road. When I took a break I went to check out the job they had done and found that they were stashing the limbs in the woods on both sides of the road. They were carrying them about 30' into the woods and had even thrown some over my fence 20' off of the road. When I confronted them with this the foreman said they were being stacked for chipping. I pointed out that they had to walk 20' into my woods to throw them over my fence and did they intend to bring their chipper (which they did not have) onto my property to use it. I was getting pretty worked up and my neighbor had joined in as she wound up with most of the limbs. The foreman said the limbs would be removed. I asked the foreman "Where is your pride in workmanship?" and got a blank look in return.
I talked off to the side with my neighbor and we decided that she would talk to the phone company and I would call the tree service
The phone company said they would look into it and the tree service promised to do something. Before I left for work tonight I checked the road and most of the limbs had been removed but not all, sloppy work. I called the tree service again apologized for being a pain, told them that I was very *pithed off and wanted the owner to call me as soon as possible.
I don't think I over reacted. I pay taxes on my lot which is mostly wooded. I am proud of how I keep it and get angry at all the bottles and trash people throw out on my land.
I am off my soap box now but my blood pressure is still up.
Some day when I find one, I'm going to buy it! Soap box that is. I saw a nice wooden one one time and passed it up.
I don't blame you a bit. Don't ya hate it when people halfassit?
Come to think of it, I have never seen a soap box.
I used to stack my albums in old fruit boxes but I sold them all in yard sales.
Jon, many times it is the utilities that tell the tree guys to (STASH) the brush, like you refer to. The way they figure, the few times they get caught and have to clean it up they are still way ahead, less equipment billing for a chipper is the way they look at it. This may not be the case with your problem, but my guess is that is what happened. The poor tree guys are just the poor chaps caught in the middle.

Hey man I can relate...we have our trees trimmed by the power company about 3 times a year. we already got the first wack done and in the process the broke our flag pole and left brances on the deck. we called and complained and after many promises nothing got fixed, so we did it our selves...called the claims adjuster for Il. power and told him to send us the money to cover it or else...got the check 3 days later...you know if we treated our cust. like that we would all be dropping fries at McDonalds...
I've been involved in such damage appraisals initiated by landowners against utility and tree companies. Some landowners have collected some significant damages when the utility "tree maintenance" work got "outside" the utility right-of-way.
In some cases it was found out that the utility company did not own the right-of-way that they thought they did.
Best Management Practices should be the norm.
Well they came back and cleaned up the mess. I made them come back twice. The owner of the company promised it would not happen again (until next time).
