Has anyone added "Honey" to their browser which is advertised to automatically find the cheapest price on items??

Well according to Snopes they are legit.

They ARE collecting data about your online shopping, and sending it to their server. But the app basically HAS to do this in order to search for any discount codes that apply to the page you are on.

The company makes a commission on the sales they generate from the various merchants, and that's how they are making some coin.

OK, I now have the "add-on" on my Firefox.  We shall see. ;D

Roxie

Since Honey only gets the lowest price on Amazon, I'll pass.  I don't shop Amazon.  ::)

Looks like it shows up in lotsa places Roxie.

I just searched for and bought a replacement umbrella cover for my sawmill.  I ended up with a replacement from eBay and the little yellow "h" was highlighted.  It was the cheapest price that I found.

I'd look into how they're making money. They aren't doing it cause they're cool guys. It probably comes at the expense of the user's privacy. Personally, I'm ok with paying a bit more, and keeping my digital footprint reduced. I'm a little more stringent about this stuff than the average person, so take the above for what it's worth.

They claim to be making a commission from the sellers that they refer you too. But you are right to be suspicious, other plugins have more dubious methods.

Lynn,

I can't believe you have to buy a new umbrella cover. Surely you can saw some thin lumber and make a new one can't you. :D

I wish.  Hafta replace it every two years.

I can always delete or turn this add-on off so we will see.  I'll do a search with it disabled first and then enabled and see what happens.

Clark Howard recommends an app called "priceblink" on his show, he also mentioned another one which I can't recall the name of.  When you look up a price on an item online "priceblink" automatically looks for cheaper prices across the internet and provides you with a link to the site with the lower price.  I have only been using it for a few months and it appears to work okay.  I haven't experienced any negative aspect of having the app on my computer.  It sounds similar to the "Honey" app.

Don't know anything about it personally. But I do a lot of shopping online at Amazon and others. The mail man came by today and said he had a lot of Amazon deliveries to do yesterday. We have no choice here. Merchants always tell ya 'we can order it'. 'I can to' is my response. Just the way of the world now. :D I'm into weaving as you know, $9 a spool local versus $5 online direct from the mill adds up in a hurry. ;)
