 I was watching the 35th anaversary of 60 minutes last night when I noticed the desk that Andy Rooney was sitting in front of. It looked like a big slab of crotch wood. had a dark streak through the center even looked like some sapwood on the edge. Anyone else notice this?

Yup, he's had that desk for years. He enjoys woodworking. There was an article about his woodworking once in Wood Magazine. When he makes a desk or table, he turns all the legs different.  He says, "Why should they be boring and all the same?"  Good question..... :)
