Just purchased a Foley Belsaw M14 that was never assembled by original owner. Seems like we have everything except the cable to drive the carriage. Anyone know the diameter and a guess at the length needed. Thanks in advance.
1/4 to 5/16". I guess you could pull a string or wire to mock up the cable.
I have also forgotten how many wraps around the drum but 4 should work.
If you go to my gallery you can view the cable drum I made years ago on a bellsaw. The set up that comes on that mill is really not right. The A belt running off the center of the mandrel hardly works. It needs to be a B belt and mounted outside the way timbers.
The Belsaw manual shows 1/4" x 66'.
You can download the manual here: http://vintagemachinery.org/pubs/detail.aspx?id=1050 (http://vintagemachinery.org/pubs/detail.aspx?id=1050)
Thanks man. I actually have that manual printed out but I guess I was overlooking it in the list. I see it now. Thanks again. I will prolly have many more questions
