a friend told me Moly is your friend and to use molybdenum grease whenever possible. Cheap grease heats up and runs right out, especially in the summer. Moly is expensive but worth the extra bucks. anybody with an opinion please chime in.

I agree on the moly  cheap grease imo just doesn't seem to hold up esp in high load applications jmo

Yes, Molly grease is good for high speed lubrication. I use the molly grease JD sells in all of my PTO shafts. Contractors in my area like it for summer use in excavators.

Moly certainly does add to the lubricity.

However, if I recall correctly from years ago at work, we went away from moly greases in some  applications since it was much more subject to washout in wet conditions (we had a couple of wire rolling mills which were cooled by a water based coolant where this was a problem). I think in those applications, we went with a special lithium-complex grease. However, it's been almost 20 years since I dealt with that, so it's possible I'm remembering incorrectly.

Something to think about anyway... there is no one grease that's good for every application.

I thought I was coming into a horse logging thread, and here we are talking about grease.  ::)

My grandfather had a team of work horses, one horse was named Molly and the other Jerry.  That's where I'm coming from. ;D

I thought we were going to be talking about some friendly woman logger.

I guess spelling molybdenum (had to double check the first post for that) throws some of us off.

The owner's manual that came with my truck specifies moly for some joints and lithium for the others?  I guess one grease doesn't fit all.  I use what they say.
