By the time my son was born I had already built my house and barn and I built my garage before he was old enough to help me much.He went to a two year college and got a degree in Power Plant Technology but no good job offers and was working at Krogers stocking shelves at night. My nieces husband was a trainer at the Carpenters Union training center and told him he should come down and apply to get in the apprenticeship program and told him what the test consisted of.One thing was driving nails overhead. I nailed a 2x6 overhead in the barn on the ceiling joist and told him to have at it.That was 10 years ago and that board full of nails is still there and I have no plans to take it down.He got in the apprenticeship program and is now a journeyman and getting Forman pay on his current job. I'm very proud of him and that board full of nails reminds me of how it started.

Is seining out of the question?  Back in my "home" years, we seined every year, kept the brim and tossed the bass back in.  Of course a seine would almost reach across our pond, but if yours has fingers, you could do them one at the time.  We pulled ours by hand, but two boats could work.

Kids hit nails, it takes awhile to figure out what "drive" means, most never get it. With uncle arthur in about every joint, it seems I now tap on nails, sometimes about fiftyleven times before they go away  ffcheesy.  Most people have never used hand tools, my generation as well.

I would say that's what it looks like!
Yes, pic is from the woods around my place in East TN this afternoon.
I searched something like "White poofball with red spots on tree" and I'll be darned if it didn't spit out some pics that were pretty close.
I grew up with card catalogs. This stuff still amazes me.  ffcheesy

Sawmills and Milling / Re: Whatcha Sawin' 2024 ??
Last post by Magicman - Today at 04:27:39 PM
My today was a re-run of yesterday.  The eight o'clock tailgunners arrived at 9:35, and then had to move yesterday's lumber and sticker it.

Meanwhile back on the sawmill, first one and then two, each costing $45.

I finished the 2X8's from the first log and now have an 18' almost sawed into 2X6's when the rain came.  I shut er down and we will resume Monday morning.

I previously mentioned that this job is only two miles from home, so I really don't care.

Dig to undisturbed soil below frost depth and square that round bottomed thing out, flat and square is a bearing surface, round is... remember when... those punching clowns with the round bottom that kept popping back up. A building on a rounded foundation rolls over and doesn't pop back up  ffcheesy

This is one I had in my gallery. This was well above 2000 psf soil!

I've not seen any bobolinks yet. Grass isn't very tall yet for them to nest in either.

No hummers up my way yet. No yard flowers except narcissus just opening. Lilac a long ways from flowers, same for weigela. I do have fly honeysuckle leaved out and I'd guess flowers to.
