About ready to put a load of 10/4 walnut in my L-53.  Live edge slabs 18" wide and wider.  How do you check MC?  Seems like it would be a problem oven drying samples plus I don't really want to cut a sample board out of the middle of a slab.  It will be hard to use a pinless.  Sticking pins in the live edge seems like the best solution but thought I would ask first.

Stick pins through the bark into the wood so they will not mess up the board.

If you do oven dry, cut it off an end

YellowHammerisms:

Take steps to save steps.

If it won't roll, its not a log; it's still a tree.  Sawmills cut logs, not trees.

Kiln drying wood: When the cookies are burned, they're burned, and you can't fix them.

Sawing is fun for the first couple million boards.

Be smarter than the sawdust
