I'm also curious to know what a decent rate is to hire someone with a portable chainsaw mill that can cut up to 60" dia. I'm hoping to have a dozen or more large trees (over 36") milled into 10/4 slab flitches. Figures to be quite a bit of work and I want to make sure I'm paying fair prices.
If I was going to do that job as a guess without seeing the logs. The rate would be a $100 an hour. Alot depends on diameter and length. I have sawn a few logs greater than 60" and can do an average of 4-6 cuts an hour and that was 8' long. Smaller diameter goes quicker. Handling the slabs was the hardest part of the job. Let me know if I can help.
