My neighbor which is also my cousin was the person I called when a log had me pinned last fall. She is a little older than me but her son lives close by and she got him to come and help and he got the log pryed up enough to get my foot out. Now whenever they hear my chainsaw running they worry about me and will sometimes call to make sure I'm alright. Thought I would do something to show my appreciation so I made a couple cutting boards to give them. Used walnut and hard maple plus I got to try out the router table I made a couple weeks ago.

Bill,

Those look like something I'd see in Tamarack at exit 45 on I-77 where WV craftsmen display their high end work and try to keep out of state tourists from leaving with the state with any of their money. :wink_2:

You should talk to them and see if they will take them in and market them for you.

Howard, thanks for the compliment but I don't think anything that I make would meet their standards. I've been in there a few times and they have pretty nice stuff and high prices to match. I'm just trying to stay busy until the weather improves a little and I can work outside.

Is that some type of food safe oil finish? Sure makes the rich dark walnut color stand out!

Resonator, the stuff I have been using is called Howard's wood wax and is supposed to be safe for food preparation. I've used it for other stuff and I really like it. With a name like that it would have to be pretty good 😊

Not fine wood working, but very utilitarian.  I have intermetro wire shelf units with casters from Container store and if I bought them today, they'd cost $285 plus tax each.  I have $60 in purchased materials in this wood version I finished a couple days ago, not including the casters, but I already had those.  I used mostly reclaimed pallet wood.  I've had a lot of odd pallets from buidling materials recieved.  and most have been worth reclaiming the wood (especially during the bug).  2x4 material, 2x3's for the shelf rails, and 1/2" plywood for the shelf tops.  I had to buy some 1.25" 1.4" lag screws for the casters.  I have a bunch of plate mount casters that I had bought for another project that I haven't done.  If I ever need them, I'll steal them back.  Needed to get stuff off the floor to make more space as my shop will have to hold a bunch of my mom's funiture for 6 months until she can move into her new house.  I am just finishing a second one of these today.  I think I'm going to put a 3rd one together this week.  Thank goodness for the pallet material!

Sweet looking top.  Is that a new or vintage base?  Nice.

Finish sanding today on the teak and Dougfir doors. I have a bronze barrel bolt coming tomorrow that I will subset into the face and it is off to the spray area next. Lots of 3-D.

Looks great TPT!

I got my sander station thing done, though somehow I mismeasured by about an inch and a half on my mortises on the top and bottom boards, so I had to redo them, which has inspired me to upgrade my crosscut sled a bit.

This thing isn't the least bit square but I started with twisted old boards that I didn't clean up at all and it will function just fine for what I want. I'll try to get a picture of it filled up and hung later. I'll use the bucket that I had all my sanders in to hold all my glues and lubricants, though after putting some of that stuff in last night I'll have to alter it a bit so I can see into it better as it's at eye level on the wall.

Welp, golf season starts back up in about a month and a half. I've failed 3 or 4 times at new attempts at making a new putter and golfed with a professionally made "normal" putter last year. I've started another attempt, this time out of some Maple that has a little nice spalting in it.

I'm about to get into the part that has messed me up, previously, and that's cutting into the bottom to add a threaded insert for the shaft and to add weight. There's not a lot of room in there for either.

I've got the shape about done, but forgot to take another picture at the end of the day yesterday.

My dad used to watch NYW a lot when I was a little kid, I thought it was so boring and now I love it and the guy is funny in ways I didn't realize then.

I watched a documentary on This Old House / New Yankee Workshop / Norm Abrams not that long ago.  It was excellent. Had some pretty good stories and insight on the shows.  I was always impressed with what Norm could build in half n hour ffcheesy

Yeah.  The power of video. But I bet he's a lot faster doing those builds than I would be. First off, he has already built one model before hand. And second he probably knows more about woodworking than I have time left to learn about.  I can do some pretty complicated stuff, but it will be awhile. ffcheesy

Need a couple new bluebird houses built. Picked up some white cedar today from an old timer I've known for a long time. He runs a circular cedar mill. Does poles to and square cants. Only time we bump into one another is at the mill. ffcheesy ffcheesy  I stopped in at the mill, no one around. Drove on toward town. I seen him zip by me and I returned to the mill. Yep, that was him.  I think he's got to be about 75 by now. He said I have a pile of 6's and 8's and it's not sorted so you'll have to do the sorting of what you want. Sounds good to me.  I got 3 - 6's and 3 - 8's  x 6". $20  I got enough for next time as well. ffsmiley

Planed up the cedar this morning, a little on the green side, easier on the knives maybe, and the knots are still tight. Edged them to on the table saw. They are up on the lumber rack stickered and drying for 3 weeks. Lots of heat and low humidity in the shop, I think it's 90° and 20 % RH right now as a matter of fact.  ffsmiley

Donkey,

Why would you plane wood to be used for bluebird boxes?

I leave mine rough and even skim cut a series of lines as a ladder on the inside front under the entrance hole to help the chicks when they go to climb out.
