After reading through a lot of these experiences, i decided to invest in a good helmet and chaps. I am cutting firewood from 2 areas that received severe wind damage. There are a lot of hangers and potential for serious injuries if one is not careful. I read a lot of the comments about the different gear and decided to go with the Husqvarna pro helmet and chaps. Just wanted to say thanks to all who have shared their preferences. It helped me make my choices.

ALWAYS make an escape route. Even if you have to cut bushes to make it. I'm real fussy. I move anything.like branches that might trip me or small bushes. 99% of the time it's a waste of time, but once in a while I feel I have to move quickly. I don't need to trip over a branch on the ground.

Great advise! I have cut a lot of firewood in my time(never considered myself a expert) but after joining FF I have found I have a lot to learn and this is a great place learn it   :)

As written, always make an escape route. Keep all bystanders and equipment back at least two tree lengths if you are felling trees. This includes gas cans, family taking pictures, trucks, etc. Don't ask me how I know. :snowball:

Like most I went without hard hat and chaps for many years then somewhere around 40 I decided I needed a helmet and chaps, both have been accident savers. Twice a dead limb from "somewhere" has struck when felling a tree, one time the truck driver threw his binding strap over the load on his truck which had a chain hook on the end...guess where I was! the chain landed squarely on top of the noggin. I was cutting fir and limbing last winter and cut into my chaps twice in one day which saved me quite a few stitches and pain. Good choice on your part to purchase these items. ;)
