My mill quit on before I was done today.
The drive side bearing locked up mid way thru a cut. Oil shows full in the sight tube. I can turn it 1/8 turn either way with large channel locks. Heading home to tear it apart.
Any words of wisdom?

Mike,
Sorry to hear about your mill.  I know you have the skills to fix it.

Apparently the bearing has been going bad for awhile. The metal shavings had plugged up the fitting for the sight tube so there was oil in the sight tube but not much in the bearing.
Can't wait to find out how much that thing costs on Monday!
No outside signs of a leak, where do you suppose that oil went??

Been there, done that twice. The bearings are pressed onto the shaft, probably need a big hydraulic press. Quick and dirty fix, order w new assembly from wm. Just bolts on, then do alignment

Hello,
Not sure what year your mill is. new mills after 2002 are 16393 assembly is $366.24.

Or you could rebuild
P10205  $ 36.78
016055  $14.82
Seal CR15890  P10206 X2$9.50 ech.

I have rebuilt a few most times I replace the assembly.

Tips.
Replace the hose and new oil. every two years or 500 hours
If your lube system leaks, there is a hole in the top fitting to help keep the seals from failing due to pressure. Fix the leak because the water will enter the bearing assembly.
The assembly will also get moisture in the bearing over time from condensation, every time I think it does not need changed yet, I find moisture in the oil.

Thank you all, I will order tomorrow.
Not a horrible job getting it out, just some heavy parts!
