Mary and I attended the Wood-Mizer open house at Mt Vernon, Mo today. One mill they had on display was the new LT70 "wide head" mill with 34" between the guides.
We could have used that for the 34" x 20' Cottonwood a few months ago.
But the LT50 got it processed.
They should sell well.
TK 2000 has 32" between the guide rollers for a LOT less. Plus 16" above the blade . Steve
Don't let Jake see this :D.

He'd be running around the country looking for 80" diameter logs to split to saw on it. :D
Here is an excellent WM video showing the overall features of the current LT70 standard mill.

The LT70 starts at 51,000. How much more what it for the wide head option? I'm so glad to see that WM came out with this. We do a lot of live edge/wide slabs for bars, counters, tables etc. I know that Timberking can make similar cuts for less money but I've only used WM, and I love their products. The thin kerf will be great for the 34" and less in diameter logs. I'll stick with my lucas slabber on the big daddies. Happy Memorial day to everyone!
Wide head was 1500.00 last November
Interesting the overhead wire going front to back, what's running on that line?
Cheers
Justin

I'm pretty sure it's a communication cable to control head functions.
Bibby,
Did it have a "cat track" like the Super remotes or was it a walk-a-long. It did not appear to have a track in the video.
Bibby:
What diameter log is W-M claiming this 34" head can handle. For instance the LT-40 with a 24" wide opening is supposed to be able to handle a 36" diameter log. I say "is supposed to" because I haven't tried to cut something that big yet. Gerald

No cable track. The communication cable on the line controls the head functions.
This one had the remote station.

I think 40" was stated.

Yes, but it's not a WM.

Right, it's a nice simple all hydraulic mill that works. Steve
Gald to see that WM is catching up with our Tk :D
I have had my eye on one for a while.

Wood-Mizer's not catching up, they're adding another lap lead! :D
It's 2 different races, one all hydraulic with very few pit stops and one with electric with lots of pit stops. Steve

Well, all that matters is whatever works for each person. I had all hydraulic and four post and was not sold on electric over hydraulic and cantilever heads until I bought one. Now, I wouldn't go back.
That works the other way also plus what my customers tell me. Steve
Always good to see customer loyalty. How about a TK at the Shoot-Out (Oct 4-6 Paul Bunyan show, Cambridge, OH)? If we can get both machines there, I'll arrange to have appropriate logs for a "grudge match"!
I love my LT70 Wide head mill and would not trade it for any other mill. "IT IS AWSOME!" 8)
Here are some pics. of a Beech tree job I did for a customer in April.

Sorry I forgot to take pics. of all the finished slabs.
It's easy to do. I generally forget either the beginning or the ending. Well sometimes the middle too. :-\
038magnum - That wide head looks nice for sure, interesting but in the photo it appears like the head does extend outside the wheel a tad, is this true when hitched to your truck?
Cheers
Justin
038-what's the vertical clearance between the band and the board return, on your mill?
Okra is green with jealousy. :snowball: I think if I were WM I would have called this an LT80 or LT75.
$1500 is a very small price to pay for the added 8 inches of cut.
I always thought that Green is also the color of Greed. :D

Greed and envy are essentially the same thing, just with slightly different connotations!
Note it is not usually said: "I am orange with envy"! ;)
038magnum, what control system does that mill use? I don't see a cat-track or operators station.
Man that 70 is wicked... Anybody wanna buy a lt40 300hours??? Hahahaah
Love the wide head. What motor options for 70?
Justin it does stick out a little. I took some pics. to show what it looks like ready to travel.

DJ.with the board return stored it the up and out of the way position, it looks like about 13 inches. It was getting dark when I got home tonight and it was hard to see the tape measure. Here is a pic that Marty took when he had it at his store.

Dave I have the Joysticks DCS controls. I had them set up away from the mill to stay out of the sawdust.

That's an awesome machine 8)

How about LT70 Super?
Seriously, I don't know why Wood-Mizer don't just make the extra width standard and only raise the price a little to make up for the few extra pounds of steel?
I'd like to see an LT40, LT50 extra wide. I seem to recall at least one built as a prototype or modified by someone.
I've seen modified wide head LT40s.
I wish I could modify my 70 into a widehead ;)
Somebody posted pictures of a wide one on here before, a 40, I think.
There's even a modified "widehead" lt40 lurking around here in NZ.
So I think that ideas been had a few times :P
Love the lt70 factory widehead tho...
would love to see it in my rear vision mirror while towing it down the road...
Cheers
