Title: Yard sale finds
Post by: Ocklawahaboy on February 06, 2016, 04:14:56 PM
Went to breakfast with the Mrs. this morning and then to a few yard sales.

Remember these???

Leaving one of the sales, I also happened upon some freshly cut little cedar logs.  Sort of a bonus I guess. If people that were addicted to other substances found their fix laying along the side of the road the world would have a totally different dynamic.

It wasn't ever left out either or they would be light blue and pink. :)

Live hand grenades would have been safer.

These are a year or 20 older than the ones I had when I was a wee kid.

They won't go through both a tennis shoe and a foot. :-[

They will break the skin and leave a bumpy bruise!

My dad threw ours away after he found out that my brother and I (probably 10 or 11 tears old) had sharpened ours on his bench grinder and were throwing them at the barn! ::)

And yes, every once in a while we could get one to stick! 8)

I think there was a little boy that shot an arrow straight up in the air and could not find it. His father find it in the ceiling of thier mobile home.

How did I live through my childhood. We played a lot of lawn darts, don't remember hearing any words of worry at the time. Not sure if Darwin culled anyone with them. Wood burning sets, chemistry sets with skull and crossbones on bottles of materials and a mini bike that went way too fast.

I still vividly remember wondering if my brother was going to notice that I had thrown my second jart or just continue to lean over the circle and look at my first one.

I also remember doing something nearly as dumb as shooting an arrow straight up...

Used to sit on a friends hen house and try to shoot birds.  There was a piece of galvanized roofing laying right beside the henhouse.   A Red Ryder fired straight down at the roofing would bounce back just a little higher than it was fired.  Then it turned into trying to shoot directly down and get it to bounce directly up.   Caught one bb between my lips and one on my just closed eyelid.  I gave up that practice after that.

At the time, I had never seen the movie " a Christmas story" but I strongly identified with ralphie once I did.

Played a lot with the toys in the first picture for years as a kid.
Then moved on up to the toys in the second picture.
Still playing with them today.
