I am in the process of changing my main line on my Hercules winch and it is being a pain! I can not get the old line out of the drum, it looks like it has a wedge and a loop in the end of the line.  My problem is that I cant get the loop loose and to get the old line off.  Any good tricks to this ?
Thanks

Use a long punch to push the wedge back. don't drive it in so far it gets stuck. Freespool the drum so the wedge is at 1 o'clock use a long bar to pry between the cable and wedge just keep working it till the tag end of the cable pops out.  than either cut the crimped mangled end off. or hook to a tree and drive away. Don't lose the wedge. Watch your eyes and KEEP you fingers out of there.

This method works very well this is what I did on my gearmatic pretty easy.

Just forget that your winch is released when you leave the landing. Take a drive in the worst brush you can find, and that main line will come out all on its own.   ::)

Just don't ask how I know  :-X
